Fussy Eating as Branding

Fussy eating patterns are part of the “quirkiness sells” attempts at personal branding. Arriving at the workplace with paleo diet boxes, smoothie cleanses, and protein shake / chia seed potions is an attempt to stand out. Please notice that the quirkiness that is in demand these days always points to exceptional sensitivity and often to some sort of woundedness.

I have no problem with those meals per se, but PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT!

    1. But then what’s the point? The whole idea is to make it as conspicuous as possible.

People who are on restrictive diets because they are actually sick with diabetes, cancer, etc never make a show out of their eating. Nobody even knows most of the time.

I tend to agree with Jordan Peterson that a lot of it is religious ritual by people trying to rediscover religion (but get stuck at the mechanical stage).

In terms of people with real allergies, what I’ve noticed is that they to not make a big deal out of it and dealing with it on their own as much as possible.
