Synchronous vs Asynchronous

It turns out that students prefer in-person teaching (not a surprise) and asynchronous online if in-person isn’t available. Synchronous online (aka Zoom school) is preferred over these two options by almost nobody.

Which should come as a surprise to no one who actually has participated in zoom school… when I have to attend zoom meetings I wander in and out of the room because looking at the screen for that long…. yech

  2. If anyone is stuck doing synchronous online, you can make it better by incorporating lots of breakout discussions and lots of small tasks (polls, mini-quizzes, short writing tasks, etc.) completed during the class session. Lecturing on Zoom is just deadly.
