Passworded

Why is nobody commenting on my passworded posts? Have people lost the password?

The most recent one is pretty funny.

Personally, I have no idea how to get the password in the first place. I don’t see any way to upgrade my subscription to get a password.

Just sent. BTW, I thoroughly enjoy your posts – keep them coming. Especially references and parallels to the Soviet system. Thank you for continuously posting.

I had to call in sick to work before I commented. I just hope they give me a free day for not having covid results—god knows they won’t give me one for not having strep results.

“Why is nobody commenting on my passworded posts?”

Some of your readers (me) are conceited enough that we like to get public notice whenever we post a comment, so other readers will be aware of it (public notice in this case means that our commenter name is listed in your website’s “Recent Comments” column).

When comments are posted to your “protected” posts, the commenters’ names don’t appear in the “Recent Comments” column, so most of your readers aren’t aware of their presence.

I don’t think I ever got a password, and assumed these posts were only for select people on your list, rather than just any old run of the mill blog follower.

That was what I thought as well. It never occurred to me to ask for the password until Clarissa told us to.

I think that’s how it started out — really the goal is to make sure there’s no students or coworkers or trolls who have the password. But it’s been a few years since the password posts have been a thing, and now there are new readers who are also not students or coworkers or trolls.

I don’t know where to get a password for your blog. I’ve tried and decided it must be something wordpress people know how to do and I don’t, since I’m not one of them, but if you can give us some direction that would be nice.
