Rebuilding

Over 600,000 people have returned to Kharkiv. The rebuilding is going on full swing. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

  1. This is good to hear.

It seems like Putin is realizing he can’t win this war. What do you think are the chances he starts to backpedal and leave Ukraine?

Among the many civilizational failures of Russia is that there’s no non-traumatic or non-disruptive way of replacing the Tsar… there’s (naturalish) death (Stalin), palace coup (Krushchev) or bloody coup (Nicholas II).

There’s no peaceful retirement spent giving speeches for large amounts of money or opening libraries or no-work jobs on the boards of corporations just die or be removed from office by others…

It would be huge benefit to Russia (and the world) if they could figure out a less primitive way of transferring power….

      1. A peaceful power transfer is one of the main features of a functioning democracy. There’s no democracy without it. And when there’s no democracy, the only existing alternatives are bad.

    2. There are indications on Russian TV that there’s a search for a way out. One very popular TV program with some of the leading propagandists floated a story the other day about how Ukrainians are mobilizing a million people, all armed with amazing new weaponry. The conclusion was, “how can we win against that?” This is a huge change of narrative from what we saw even a few weeks ago. Back then it was all, “ha ha, what can these unmotivated, weak peasants do against our glorious army?” This dramatic change in the story being told to the people was curious. We’ll see how things develop.

Well, if they are saying this then they are finally speaking the truth. Once all things are settled, Ukraine will have a stronger military than Russia. The amount of material and weapons Ukraine is getting right now is incredible; I would venture to say it’s without recent historical precedent. This is why I’ve been saying Ukraine won’t really need to be in NATO for protection; if anything the Russians are the ones that may need protecting.

Glad to hear it though; maybe they are finally moving in the right direction.

    1. It’s absolutely unprecedented. And so great! The world is uniting around something clearly good and important. What a great, hopeful moment.
