The belief that the USSR fell apart because its economic system was unsustainable is deeply Marxist. Marxism’s central idea is that economic relations are the defining factor in everything.
However, as we can see in North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela, the complete and utter dysfunctionality of their economy only adds to the longevity of these regimes.
“People are going to get fed up with living in poverty and will overthrow the regime that tyrannizes them and doesn’t let them live better.” Oh, you, funny bunny. It’s the exact opposite. The hungrier and the more beaten down they are, the more they are prone to pout if anybody tries to liberate them.
I don’t know if this is true. In the case of Venezuela and others, I just think Maduro has managed to keep the security and military happy, and unfortunately that’s enough. At the end of the day, the people who hold monopoly on deathly force are the ones that rule. No amount of protesting is going to change that.
It also doesn’t help that Venezuela doesn’t really need it’s people to be happy; they can just sell oil, keep the security apparatus happy and kill/imprison those who disobey.

Those slogans are so funny. ( In general, love reading this blogger. He is a very unique person, currently living in Sweden. Highly educated and thoughtful. He is following the current war and had also written a lot about education system in Sweden, which sounds like some dystopia.)
