Russia’s war against Ukraine is revealing many things. One is the answer to the question of “why the West rules.”
With all my sincere respect for my South African readers, it’s undeniable that African politicians showed themselves to be groveling, pathetic incompetents. It’s clear that Africa will remain a stale backwater of humanity because it has no interest in anything else.
We keep hearing that it’s the fault of colonialism that “the Global South” is in a bad state. But long after anybody has had any interest in colonizing these places, the Ramaphosas, the Lulas and the Petros are still crawling on all fours, looking for a colonial master whose boots they can lick.

That’s been pretty much the case over the last 60 or so years…. it’s hard to find an African country whose government passes even the lowest bars of competence.
My idea is that many countries want to be recolonized with a better split of income.
Certainly migration out of Africa shows a tremendous demand for western rule. Since African governments can’t provide that the migrants are trying to get to the source.

The incompetence of the SA government is a bit different from other African countries given SA’s nuclear weapons. This may have something to do with the SA government identifying with Russia’s position.

It’s called slave mentality. Very widespread in Russia, too. Used to be a thing in Ukraine and in some – not all – Balkan countries, but then the Ukrainians and some South Slavs decided that they’d had enough of crawling on all fours and that’s where we ate at: slaves doing to innocent victims what they should be doing to their masters.

Exactly. I thought it was never going to happen in Ukraine, which is why I emigrated. But then it did. The price being paid for it is horrific but at least it happened.

South Africa can’t even keep the lights on due to corruption and it’s a near fail state. I think most South Africans agree their country is not in a good place.
The sad truth is things were probably better under apartheid, even for the marginalized black population:
This is also why I laugh at this whole BRICS idea that has been highlighted everywhere. BRICS is basically just India and China, and they hate each other. Good luck getting anything done.
