More Dependence

America relies on Russia for 20 percent of its nuclear fuel and 50 percent of the natural uranium used in its nuclear reactors, according to the Energy Information Administration. Biden — who has himself supported domestic-mining initiatives and promised to boost U.S. uranium production — is moving suspiciously fast to designate this national monument in Arizona, which will cut off some of the best uranium resources America has.

Yes, now is the perfect moment to consolidate America’s dependence on Russia to appease “tribal and environmental groups”.

  1. Lots of countries mine more uranium than Russia, such as Canada, Australia, and Namibia. Russia dominates nuclear fuels because they flooded the market with cheap uranium from decommissioned nuclear weapons.

Uranium mining in the US is a talking point, but in practice it makes more sense just to buy from the existing mines and focus on refining capacity.
