The Snow White Drama

Both sides of the political spectrum have lost their you-know-whats completely.

I finally looked up that actress, Rachel Zegler, the so-called “not white Snow White”. And she’s clearly white. A daughter of a Pole and a Colombian. How exactly does one get whiter than a Pole, I should ask?

It’s disturbing that people are so brainwashed by the very American “one drop” theory of race that their thinking gets clouded. This woman is white everywhere on the planet, including in Colombia.

This reminds me of that blond British-Argentinean actress who was hyped as “a person of color”. I mean, a very pale color is still color but both Left and Right are cuckoo on this subject.

  1. “not white Snow White”

I thought the controversy was less about her… skin tone (though I’m sure some idiots made a deal about that) and about the very dumb things she’s been saying about the story…. which don’t bother me since I don’t expect performers to be intellectuals. Also, the pictures of her in costume are…. not flattering… I looked up pictures and she’s quite lovely as Maria in West Side Story but the snow white hair… not good…

It’s not even about her color, just her native language. Native Spanish speakers are marginalized in our weird classification system, mostly because some of the people who speak Spanish are people of color.

Imagine if we applied these rules to French, as globally quite a few francophones are black. We’d have social justice types celebrating Quebecoise identity during Black History Month.

    1. Don’t give our Quebecois friends any ideas, I beg you.

I’ve had quite a few students from Latin America ask me why they are told they are not white in America but back home they are white. Apparently, self-ID doesn’t work in what concerns race.

But hey, there are a few useful idiots in Ukraine, trying to get the Americans to like them, claiming that Ukrainians aren’t white. While Russians are. This is especially bizarre given that Russia truly is multiracial and Ukraine isn’t.

      1. Wait, Ukrainians aren’t white? Wasn’t that Hitler’s stance?

I mean, I get that many people living on the steppe or the shores of the Black Sea probably have some ancestors from the Middle East and Asia, given the history of global trade and migration, but that just underscores how flawed our attempts at racial categories really are. The fact remains that Ukraine is full of people with pale skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes.

        1. Well, you know that “white” means “evil”. Ukrainians aren’t evil, so we can’t possibly be white. It’s not about coloring but victimhood status. We are victims so we aren’t white.

          1. Ukrainians aren’t white. Ukraine is a Eurasian nation and its reflected in the phenotype of them, many of them can pass as white westerners and many cannot.. there are Ukrainians who look Mongolian-like are they white?

        2. So do people in the Middle East all the way to South Asia… having blonde/blue eyed individuals (minority) makes you white? So are Afghani Pashtuns white are Palestinians white?

      2. You’re a Yankee imperialist telling Ukrainians what they are.. what do you know about Ukraine, it’s people and how Ukrainians look? Nothing.. your literally forcing your social standards on people who have been marginalized by the west for centuries… do you know how neo colonist you sound Yankee? Ukrainians aren’t white because Ukrainians aren’t homogenous and don’t fit your pathetic one-dimensional views of race. A good part of the Ukrainian population has racial influence from Central Asia and other parts in Asia. That is why many Ukrainians do not consider themselves white. But it seems that your imperialist opinion about the world is what matters. Tell me are Crimean Tatars white too when 80% of them would be called Asian by Americans?

  3. Embarrassing moment for me: she’s much darker than any white person I see on a day to day basis, so without even knowing her background I have categorized her as at least mixed race. We don’t really have Hispanics here, or even Italians. This may be the perspective many Americans are coming from.

Couldn’t tell you the logic when it comes to the blonde Argentinian woman. Even to the most sheltered of American eyes, she’s unambiguously white.
