Refuge

In the first 8 days of the semester, the students have behaved about a million times more maturely, responsibly and seriously than professors.

I honestly have to say that never in my career have I seen such amounts of poutiness, eccentricity boarding on anti-sociality, fussiness about non-existent health dangers and outright weirdness among colleagues.

I go into the classroom to take a break from the childishness with 18-year-olds who actually want to work.

Exactly what I would expect…. here, an extra bonus that younger faculty tend to be much bigger drama queens (and treat students far worse) than older faculty, which is not what I remember from the US…..

    1. I’m experiencing no problems with any colleagues under the age of 55. It’s the older age group that’s behaving crazy weird.

A colleague comes into my office and says excitedly, “I broke into colleague X’s office and guess what? It’s all dusty. She hasn’t cleaned it in a while!”

That’s just not normal behavior, I’m sorry. I demanded an explanation and she told me that 10 years ago somebody broke into her office so she now thought it was OK to do that.

I have a 7-year-old who knows this is a pathetic excuse.
