Trudeau’s Cruel Prank

I don’t want to be all conspiracy theory girl but sometimes one just wonders.

Zelensky went to Canada, and Justin Trudeau handed him the worst PR defeat of the century. It’s beyond humiliating, and I want to think there’s no intent behind it but even for the mega incompetent Trudeau this is too much.

So Zelensky is in the Canadian Parliament, right? Suddenly, it’s announced, “And now let’s honor a Ukrainian hero of World War II who’s 98 years old and living here in Canada!” Of course, it’s a World War II hero, so everybody is happy and applauds.

But then guess what? It turns out that the old dude did fight heroically in WWII. A small detail, though. He fought on Hitler’s side. “The hero” was part of the infamous Waffen SS “Galizien” consisting of Ukrainians who supported Hitler. There were very few of those bastards. Every nation has its baddies, and these are ours. They are constantly thrown in our faces when, for example, nobody wants to mention the Russians who fought for Hitler under the leadership of General Vlasov. And nobody drags out any Russian Nazis (past or present) when Russian dignitaries visit (or used to).

“Ukrainians are all Nazis” is our blood libel. It’s like asking Netanyahu on a state visit if he enjoyed the Christian baby he ate for breakfast. It’s like decorating the room with swastikas for Olaf Scholz’s visit. It’s hard to find another nation that suffered from Hitler more than Ukraine but we have to be not only insulted but currently genocided for our utterly imaginary Nazism.

And then comes Trudeau and confirms everything that Russian propaganda has been saying about Ukraine. The squeals of delight coming from Russia and from every useful moron it bought itself here in the US are deafening. “Ukrainian Nazis! We told you!”

Trudeau, as always, blamed somebody else, took no responsibility, and waved away questions in a manner that the propagandists found mega useful. I know he’s a loser who’s so incompetent he probably has 5 people helping him pee in the morning. He can mess up anything. Still, there are so few of these Ukrainian Hitler collaborators and so many Ukrainians who fought against Hitler (even though they are all dying of old age now) that one wonders how easy it is to make such a mistake.

We were all so happy when Zelensky went to Canada. Ukrainian Canadians were all touched to tears, and there are many of us. But that’s how Trudeau treats one of the largest historical communities in Canada. He spits at us during one of our harshest times in history, and then he wouldn’t even apologize normally to put an end to rumors.

It’s an absolute disgrace but Trudeau won’t pay. Ukrainians will.

    1. We elect people on telegenicity these days. The actually smart and ambitious people who run things don’t go for elected office anymore. They are all in “advisory” roles now, so that they cannot be voted out, prosecuted, or face any kind of accountability. All that can be conveniently offloaded onto the sock-puppet in office.

      1. I remember how all of my friends in Canada were peeing themselves with delight when Trudeau was first elected. “He’s so good-looking!” I’m sure they are looking forward to when everybody’s mortgages and rent payments jump by many hundreds of dollars a month in November. Trudeau’s looks must be a great consolation in the midst of the economy he so badly mismanaged.

This is Canada that came out better than anybody else from the Great Recession thanks to the careful management by the Conservative Party. So it’s not like national policy can’t trump even a global economic calamity.

      2. Apparently, “smart and ambitious” people are also not that smart.
I am no fan of Trudeau, but primary responsibility is on the veteran in question – he knew which side he fought on. Unfortunately, he got too used to playing the role of a patriot and a freedom fighter. Or maybe he has dementia.
The rest of the people involved – not so sure. Everybody just reacts with warm feelings when “WWII veteran” is mentioned, and justifiably so. And after experiencing these warm feelings nobody questions anything any more.
Another interesting but troubling possibility is that someone knew, but was too afraid to tell their superiors and be accused of not being supportive enough of Ukraine, or being a victim of Russian propaganda, or whatnot.
The main PR problem is not that the Ukrainians appear to be all Nazis – after 1.5 years of a mass effort to defend their country nobody but the Russians believe this crap – it is that it appears that the West does to not know the difference between Nazis and non-Nazis.

        1. Apparently, the old dude had a blog where he gushed about his passionate support for Herr Hitler. These absolute losers couldn’t even Google the guy.

I still think it’s not unlikely that it was engineered by some low-level clerk who’s a Russia sympathizer.

              1. I tend to believe in “do not invent conspiracy theories if something can be explained by incompetence”. But to what end would one do it if doing it deliberately? To stop support for Ukraine? But first of all, it is a conservative agenda (or at least in my case the only people I know who are into “defund Ukraine” are conservatives). And second, the outcome of this thing is too uncertain to do it deliberately.

              2. Socialists are all in for defunding Ukraine. The far left and the far right are united on this issue completely.

But what I’m thinking in this case is that it can simply be a Russia sympathizer. India is pro-Russian, Mexico, Argentina, the entire Middle East. How hard is it to imagine that there are people with this origin working for the Trudeau administration?

              3. Honestly, I have no idea whose interests would be served by such a move… I just have a really hard time with the idea that a federal-level government organizing team scheduling people to be in direct contact with Trudeau wouldn’t have done a basic security vetting here. That seems implausible.

              1. I have no idea why that posted thrice.

My sibling lost an entire professional career in news media for not googling a guy before she set up an on-air interview. Literally spent nine years working crap overnight construction-site security jobs for cokeheads after that, because she was so toxic in the profession where she’d spent her entire adult life, working her way up from the ground floor, and was quite good at. That was over fifteen years ago.

I have a very, very hard time believing that the staff of the top guy in Canada’s government, in 2023, is having this problem.

              2. … like seriously, there is no way this isn’t taught in PR- and security-staff school these days, under “what not to do” and “mistakes that will kill your career” with my sibling’s picture on the powerpoint slide.

    2. We are hoping that in the next election Canadians will finally tire of this deadbeat poseur. The economy is in far worse shape than in the US. The homelessness is exploding. People have got to notice, even though they do believe he saved them from COVID.
