Losing Strategically

What is the difference between an athlete and a diplomat?

An athlete is thinking how to win while a diplomat is thinking whether to win or to lose.

Knowing how to win is great. But knowing how to lose strategically is a lot better.

  1. Would be glad to have an example what you mean by losing strategically.

The only thing that comes to my mind is Hamas strategically losing Palestinian lives (civilians and terrorists) to gain international support and influence money flows to their leadership.

As an aside, today I read that Hamas terrorists were on drugs: “Captagon pills were found in the pockets of Hamas terrorists … a synthetic amphetamine-type stimulant … the “cocaine for the poor,” allowed the terrorists to commit heinous acts with a sense of calmness and indifference. Simultaneously, it kept them highly alert for extended periods and suppressed their appetite. Captagon gained notoriety in 2015 when it was discovered to be used by ISIS fighters to suppress fear prior to carrying out terrorist operations. “
