Sorry, but how is this particular incident related to open borders (apart from the existence of international flights)? These people are the indigenous population of the area, and part of the last three reincarnations of the Russian empire. There was no border between them and Moscow since 19th century. They are not some Tajik or Uzbek migrant workers…

But again, it can happen in Moscow without any open borders. You’d need to limit internal migration to avoid it.
I think it’s extremely disingenuous to be using this specific incident to talk about open borders.
