We are not like everybody else on my campus. For the past 3 weeks, we’ve had loud, spirited and crowded debates on the quad every Tuesday. Sometimes, things come to blows and campus police arrives to drag away the most rambunctious protesters.
No, it’s not pro-Palestinians battling Jews. I found no evidence our students even know about that. Our campus battles are between Christians and rainbow protesters. Christians start preaching, and the rainbow supporters try to beat them up. It all inevitably becomes racialized because the preacher is white. I’d really like to see what would happen if a black preacher showed up.
By now, there’s probably a service you can contact– like a speaker’s agent– who can arrange for a black pastor to put in an appearance ; )
This guy would be fun:
He seems to have a whole side career of getting entertainingly kicked out of school board meetings. I suspect he’s being invited, and provided with travel expenses.

Found some thoughts here interesting, especially his take on Said’s quote:
В чем сила, брат? Евгений Добренко – о всемирном беспорядке
Евгений Добренко – филолог, культуролог, профессор Венецианского университета

I haven’t read Said myself. What do you think?

All true about Said but the best part of the article is seeing how a completely neoliberalized mentality is incapable of grasping how normal human beings perceive the world. Said, with all his faults, is so much more interesting, nuanced and attractive as a thinker than this guy that it’s kind of funny.
I highly recommend this article as an example of neoliberal mentality. It’s so cheerful, flat and clueless, it’s just cute.

When we had crazy street preachers at our college campus, there was a racial mix. The preachers seemed to make a living off of trying to piss people off and suing anyone who touched them (if you allow idiots like this to piss you off that much, it’s on you though.)

Yes, the most effective thing to do with crazy street preachers is to ignore them because what they want more than anything is attention. I get that some people can’t handle just walking by and pretending that they aren’t there, but those people should stand with their backs turned. A huge crowd standing with their backs turned can be a remarkably effective protest that frustrates rather than feeds the crazy preacher types.

Honestly, the rainbow supporters looked way crazier than the preacher.

We had a preacher who came to campus every year. This was always the answer—everyone was explicitly told to ignore because he had a habit of suing schools if students reacted by protesting him any way but silently. And it worked. Everyone ignored him but for a few people who hung around in 80 degree heat with signs, and then at the end of the day they all went home everything was fine.

Yes but if people don’t show up to protest, how are they going to manage to feel aggrieved and self-righteous? 😉

Do you mean fundamentalist Christians? In my area, about half of the churches have rainbow flags.

What is the religion of those churches? I find it hard to guess the religion of any church that puts out flags. It can’t be Christianity because it’s very anti-flag by definition.

Your flavor of Christianity might be anti-flag, but that is really not true of most churches in the US.

I live in the US, though. The only rainbow flag on a church I’ve seen is in the St Louis neighborhood with million-dollar homes. There’s no flag of any kind on mine. Or the one at my kid’s school. Or the three churches around my house. It the two on my way to work. Nobody here is that rich.

Ok, rainbow symbolism. The one closest to my house has 7 Adirondack chairs in front painted in rainbow colors. Some have signs that say all are welcome with rainbow coloring. I could swear there are also flags. They’re clearly heathen places only degenerates could possibly attend. Probably pagan.

Addressed to my dearest beloved Government in Jerusalem.
Bibi please Sir, keep your eye on the PRIZE. The strategic value “Land for Peace”, PM Begin returned the Sinai to Egypt and PM Sharon returned Gaza to Arafat’s PA. The strategic PRIZE of the Jewish State: SAMARIA SAMARIA SAMARIA SAMARIA SAMARIA SAMARIA SAMARIA etc.
עת רצון, Israelis fight this War לשמה, NOW the time has come for “LAND FOR PEACE”, Arabs to return SAMARIA to Israel. NOW the time for Jerusalem to FIGHT to establish the PA Gaza-Palestinian Independat State! To return Gaza back to the government of the PA. To accomplish this FREE INDEPENDENT GAZA-PALESTINIAN STATE requires a complete population transfer of dhimmi Arab refugee populations transported from E. Jerusalem and the whole of Samaria to the PA independent Gaza Palestinian State.
Bibi please Sir, keep your eye on the PRIZE. Remember President Trump’s Abraham Accords. Israelis do not need to sunbath on the beaches of Gaza. Removing the dhimmi Arab populations from E. Jerusalem and the whole of Samaria, the action taken by a ‘Great Power’ in the Middle East who has not only thereafter annexed the whole of Samaria to Israel, freed up a mass of territory within our borders to establish housing for the poor of our People, removed the pretext of “stolen lands” by which Arab states in the past condemned Israel, closed the mouth of UN imperialism: 242, 338, 446, 2334; but inserts the demand that the UN cease its Apartheid policy of refusing to recognizes Israel as a country of the Middle East!
That Israel fights the current war to uproot Hamas, proves that Israel seeks “Land for Peace”; trade and military alliances with ALL Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa: the strategic interests of a ‘Great Power’ in the Middle East.
