Movie Adventures

Has anybody on here watched the new movie “Napoleon”? Is it worth seeing?

From the trailer, the actors looked a bit too geriatric for the roles but it seems like a new fad to star actors in their dotage in roles they aged out of decades ago.

The new movie I am looking forward to is the prequel to Hunger Games with a convoluted, forgettable title. The book was seriously better than the Hunger Games series, and the trailer gives hope that the movie will do it justice.

  1. I’m more curious about how they cover his time in Saint Helena than anything else.

Not going to ask if anyone’s visited, you don’t wind up there by accident.

When you think of islands, you think of mostly flat?

Think of Saint Helena as every exception to every rule you think you have about islands.

There’s a relatively recent walking path into town that joins a hard to access area with the town in its rugged valley.

Oh but you like walking paths?

So did I, but that one has more steps to navigate than the fifteen storey climb out of the platform level to the street at Covent Garden.

The usual histories of the modern age make it sound like Napoleon was pampered in Saint Helena.

At the time, that was very likely a slightly more than minimal crew needed for survival.

Pilots will love it: the approach makes landing at Tenerife seem like a sure thing.

BTW impending stuff is still impending: right now for me this is early evening.

  2. Saw Napoleon yesterday, it sucked. It gave you no clue about what motivated Napoleon or any idea of what the French Revolution involved. It’s just disjointed battle scenes / sex scenes that last at least an hour too long. Not that different from Floppenheimer, though I liked Napoleon slightly more.

DΓ©sirΓ©e (the Marlon Brando Napoleon) also sucked, but it at least provided an intelligible (totally corny) dramatic narrative.
