Democrats could get a deal to send in aid to Ukraine this afternoon if they compromised and agreed to Republican border-security proposals. President Biden could get a huge win — funding for Ukraine, funding for Taiwan, funding for Israel, and funding for border security — but apparently keeping the status quo in the backlogged system of processing asylum claims is more important to him.

It’s exactly what I’m saying. This isn’t something that the Democrats want to give to their voters because the voters demand it. No. The Dem voters want funding for Ukraine and Israel. Even more so, they want less illegal immigration. Every poll since the 1980s shows that.

Republicans aren’t asking for a border wall. They are asking for extremely reasonable, easy to implement changes to the way asylum claims are processed. We need to start asking, why is it so important for Dems in Congress to deny this request? Why are they willing to sacrifice Ukraine in order to make sure that every migrant gets into this country?

    Because ensuring that lots of people can stay home on benefits while so many others continue to work remotely means that cheap manual labour is constantly being required – which pleases Capitalist enterprises no end – and since said cheap labour is overwhelmingly made up of people representing the “right” demographics this pleases the Democrats’ Woke electorate while at the same time guaranteeing a huge reservoir of loyal future voters. Don’t watch their mouths, watch their hands.

      I know but I want Democrat voters (who are still the majority of readership on this blog) to ask themselves this. The media is framing this as “intransigent, evil Republicans are selling Ukraine out because they are such fascists”, and that’s a total lie.

      I shouldn’t be surprised that the media are lying but I am.

    It is ridiculous. Many blue state officials are now complaining about unsustainable illegal immigration and Biden is getting a lot of heat. Don’t understand it, this should definitely be an easy win.

      That’s what I’m saying. Cutting down on illegal immigration is a winning issue with most voters, R or D. Biden used to be able to stand up to the small radicalized minority in his party but both on this issue and on Israel he’s ceding to the far-left. He seems to think he can’t win the election without them. And maybe it’s true but he should know how to motivate them to turn out next November.

      …but as long as they think they can pawn off the public with “this is all the fault of Texas for not taking care of all these illegals” that’s the route they’re gonna take.

        This fallacy has crumbled recently. Chicago, NYC, Boston are completely overwhelmed and a shelters are at full capacity. They’re now seeing the same issues that the border states were seeing and no amount of mental gymnastics can overcome a harsh reality. That’s why they are pleading with Biden to do something to stem the flow. But for some reason Biden is not really taking decisive actions.

          I don’t have a good handle on how big-city voters are reading this situation– all I can see from here is the MSM reports blaming the problem on “republican governors” busing these people in. But the numbers that have been bused in by border states are clearly just a drop in the bucket vs. the total influx everywhere. They’re finding their own ways to the cities. Can’t tell what people who live there actually believe about it, though have seen a few press conferences held by citizens in Chicago who are upset with their leadership over it.

          Are you an urban dweller with a clearer view from the ground?

            It’s a big deal because the local population does not have shelter access. NYC is also projecting budget shortfalls over $10 billion dollars, which will result in reduced services to the local population that will definitely be felt. This is why they are pleading with Biden, but he’s not listening and they are growing increasingly frustrated.

            I’ll amend my previous commend. Biden is starting to listen:
            “Specifically, the White House indicated that it would support a new, far-reaching legal authority to allow U.S. border officials to summarily expel migrants without processing their asylum claims. The measure would effectively revive the Trump-era Title 42 pandemic order and allow officials to pause U.S. asylum law, without a public health justification.”

            I’m in touch with New Yorkers. Many are angry about budget cuts but don’t make the connection to Fed policy. Lower income folks get it though. They see newcomers getting more help than they are and they do not like it.

              Thanks– not living in those places, it’s largely off my radar, and I do not trust MSM to be telling the truth about it.
