The Politicians We Deserve

This is so insulting to me as a voter from both of them. You bloody fools, who the ef cares about your stupid Civil War trivia? Start doing your jobs, you absolute losers.

We deserve the politicians we get, we really do.

  1. Take a trip through Tennessee. The Civil War is still a top topic of conversation. In my son’s neck of the woods, you need to go on Robert E Lee way and Stonewall Jackson Rd. to get to the highway.

  2. It’s interesting in the way that facts are turned around to imply other things for political narrative benefit.

The facts: an alliance of the Western and Northern states needed an excuse to fight the Southern states, which had an economy backstopped by British industrial strength.

So they got the excuse they needed to wage war over trade disputes with the events at Fort Sumter.

In the way it has anything to do with slavery, it’s because the Southern states didn’t have the Zong Incident like the British had, and so the history of their largest trading partner hadn’t caught up to them, and it never did.

Not trying to do a bit about the War of Northern (and Western) Aggression, just that ignoring trade differences and encroachment on “spheres of influence” does tend to lead to war.

The victors are of course free to lie about what a wonderfully just cause it was.

But the only fools still talking about how slavery was some kind of critical linchpin in The South are the ones who can’t get rid of their own mental shackles.

Around here BTW I’m seeing fewer American flags.

In their place I’m seeing Florida flags as well as a few occasional others, including that certain variant of “The Cross of Saint Andrew”.

That guy flying the Pineland flag, we need to talk soon in an amicable environment, because I don’t think the rest of the people nearby understand how he intends to escalate past the Gadsden flag.

He’s acting like he’s been tread on already.

    Can’t say I’d disagree.

    The next Fort Sumter awaits.
