What’s Possible

My normie friend asked me today if it’s “still possible” for Ukraine to win the war. This already showed me the state of the MSM news reporting.

The answer is, God, so very possible. If Mr Joe Biden stopped sabotaging, if the US stopped placing ludicrous limitations on what Ukraine is allowed to do, if we had just 20 airplanes and 20 more Patriots, it would all be done already.

People are so duped that they think men can be women, diversity is our strength and Biden is pro-Ukrainian when in reality he’s done everything to help Russia.

So yeah, it’s possible.

What percentage of promised aid in the form of arms (in total from all countries) has actually arrived in Ukraine?

I saw one estimate that well over a third (maybe more) of declared arms aid has never actually been delivered (and there are no prospects for them to be delivered).

My most charitable take is that western governments realized russia can’t ‘win’ in achieving its supposed aims back in 2022 and are waiting for russians to realize this and act upon it. But it’s not a great idea to ascribe rational motivations or reactions from russia… self-aggrandizement is a hell of a drug…

My mid-charitable take is that they take russian threats at face value and are terrified of overt russian defeat (and possible social collapse and nukes, if they even still work, falling into hands of rogue factors).

My least-charitable take is that they’ve been corrupted by russian money or there’s kompromat that they don’t know how to counter…

    1. Your mid-charitable take seems closest to the actual situation, Cliff…

The Western powers are falling for Putin’s bluff, and are fearful that sufficient Western (mainly U.S.) aid to win the war for Ukraine would be considered a sufficient threat to Putin’s survival in Russia to provoke him into initiating escalating levels of warfare that would lead slowly but ultimately into Word War III.

Putin is a typical dictator, desperate to hold onto power, but not insane. In all the long years of my life (1945 to the present), nuclear gitters have been a farce. No one has ever dared to touch the trigger to Armageddon, and that isn’t about to happen now.

      1. You don’t think that Putin could use nuclear weapons against Ukraine if Ukraine will be on the verge of taking back Crimea? If he will do so, would the West actually be prepared to directly militarily intervene against Russia?

  2. Ukraine has managed to neutralize Russia’s black sea fleet. That’s a huge feat not mentioned in the news.

Imagine what they could do with several squadron of F16s armed with modern missiles.

  3. OK, I’ll bite: If Biden will massively increase US aid to Ukraine, couldn’t Russia massively increase its own spending on the war as well, possibly even up to the point of it spending 25+% of its total GDP on this war? That’s what Russia previously did during WWI before it descended into revolution.
