  1. It’s amusing that they talk about the display they’ve produced since there are no American companies capable of producing an iPad display. The screens are made in Korea.

  2. I can’t with this crap, I could only watch a few seconds of this. I do have several streaming accounts but most of my media is in physical forms: paper books, DVDs and CDs. This is terrifying that all media is going to be online, I only use streaming music to listen to something on my commute and streaming video to find unusual stuff. This is frightening that this is the future of media

  3. When was the last time an american tech company did anything innovative? Silicon valley = rent-seeking all the way down.

      1. The problem is not just of talent but of vision. I’m sure there are enough amazing programmers at apple and google, but what exactly is their time being used for? Optimizing for clicks for revenue maximization, iterating on yet another version of the iphone, etc. Nothing meaningful, nothing that actually improves people’s lives. Google search in 2005 was a hundred times better than it is now, with 1/100 the budget. It should be embarrassing for them. These companies are still dining out on the successes they had 20 years ago.

        An analogy would be hollywood, which is not interested in new stories anymore. It’s just sequels, prequels, and more sequels of past movies.

        1. This is capitalism. The tech companies and hollywood are maximizing their shareholders’ revenue. Google’s search is making them trillions, why would they be embarrassed?

    1. It’s aesthetically ugly, too. That poor yellow smiley with the popping out eyes. Everything is jarring. Nothing works together. The lighting is bad. For an ad promoting “creative tools”, this was a major flop.

  5. I think while Steve Jobs was alive, Apple was run by somebody who actually cared about making new things in the real world that conferred actual benefit on Apple’s customers. Also, run by somebody who wasn’t demented with 2024 Current Year left-wing ideologies.

    Since Jobs’ death, I think Apple’s been run by ideologues with very little interest in making things that are new and beautiful and genuinely useful to real human beings, and much more interest in the following activities: working as a lackey of the Surveillance State; going bananas with DEI hiring and policies; living off of their past excellence. Economically, what’s been keeping Apple going is Woke Capital: the Fed prints vast amounts of imaginary money, then Blackrock “invests” that imaginary money in “good” companies that obey DEI / ESG / etc.

    It may take the disintegration of the U.S. dollar to end this.

  6. Well this commercial did the rare feat of uniting the country for a moment. Righty trad types hate it and lefty artsy types hate it. It was so bad that I thought it was a hoax and made by AI or something. That yellow face was like a nightmare. But no…it’s real. And so is the backlash. I wouldn’t be surprised if some jobs are lost over this.

    I grew up in an era when feminine hygeine products were all competing to be the thinnest.

    So now any time a product’s main advertising point is it’s thin-ness…

  8. I believe the ad was made by two Israelis, previously known for making music videos. I actually wonder if it was *meant* to make Apple look bad. Anything’s possible in that Davos-meets-Warhol world of the tech culture industry…
