This was the most perilous of all 4 Trump cases.
There’s something that the Afghan withdrawal, the Secret Service actions last week and this prosecution share. They were done in a bumbling, incompetent way. Leaving aside Trump, this is bad for all of us because people in charge of government services seem utterly incapable.

We know what this looks like in a private company: you bring in a temporary management guy, whose job is to go in, find all the dead-weight employees, and fire them. Mass layoffs. Then, everybody hates that guy, you pay him handsomely, and he moves on to clean house at some other company. Then you hire a shiny new manager with no baggage from the layoffs, and a bunch of fresh employees.
I think government employees do everything possible to make sure this can’t happen to government jobs, so they can keep hiring their friends, relatives, and political allies. I’ll hire your incompetent nephew if you’ll hire my idiot goddaughter, that way it’s not nepotism…

It’s also the darn quotas with their absolutely insane insistence in bringing people into jobs where they can’t possibly be any good. Why do women need to be USSS agents? Really, why? For going undercover, OK. But for bodyguard work? It’s deeply dumb. And it’s like that with everything. It’s almost a reflex to be happy when you hire a minority and uncomfortable when you don’t. It’s being implanted into our heads.

Eh, there *should* be at least some female USSS agents specifically for female protectees, for specific privacy-sensitive stuff. Not replacing dudes, but in addition. No business on Trump detail though. No way those ladies were held to the same physical, training, vetting standards as the men on that team.

I’m generally against women in roles like this, but I do agree that there needs to be at least a few. For example, men should not enter women’s bathrooms and such, so if a VIP is a woman, there really needs to be female agents that can go with her.
That being said, part of the job of agents like the USSS is to physically block any bullet from hitting the VIP while an attack is ongoing while the VIP is outside of cover. Note the debacle from over the weekend. I hold nothing against her, but that female agent should not have been assigned to Pres. Trump. She was shorter than him, but was expected to shield him while they got him off the stage.
What I would like to know is who was running the show for the USSS. You have to accept that there will be a certain laxness in guard duty when years go by without anything major happening. However what I can’t accept is that out of the two buildings outside the rally, but within rifle range, one of the roofs was not being watched. I am not going to accuse anyone, as I know perfectly well mistakes do happen. However I have heard that several folks brought up the the local police on site, and the USSS agents on site that they had seen someone heading to the roof, minutes before and were ignored.

At least one of the female agents also looked quite overweight with a bad coordination. She’d be much happier in a desk job than running around in the heat, doing physically strenuous stuff.
I’m an overweight, uncoordinated woman myself, and the last thing I want in life is to do this kind of a job. It’s unnecessary danger both for her and whomever she’s guarding.

It’s the mortgage crisis all over again….. idiot economists (but I repeat myself) looked at traditional default rates and thought “Hey! If we give more mortgages without requiring downpayments we can make tons of money!”
The problem of course was that downpayments were a proxy for ‘willing and able to keep up payments’ and if you remove that you get a lot of people with no hope of keeping up payments getting shafteed with mortgages they can’t keep up with. End result: everybody’s worse off…. lessons learned: none!
That’s how DEI works… “the white/asian guys in this field are sooo competent” the thinking goes, if we just get a bunch of women and non-asian minorities into the field they’ll be competent too! Yay! Equity!
It looks remarkably stupid when you put it down in black and white but that seems to be the thinking (largely unconscious). I haven’t seen any counter evidence that that’s the logic driving DEI for…. a long time now.

There is something seriously wrong when he gets charged and impeached so many times with so few actual results and convictions. It really starts driving home the point that this is nothing more than a political witch hunt. Democrats have ruined any credibility they had by bringing some many impeachments and chargers and having only, possibly the least consequential, stick.

Most people I talk with in real life, as well as most people I see discussing online are in disbelief these are our two options. Apparently the “best” the current political machinery can offer.
The Republican/Democrat duopoly must end, or at least be weaken before we can start having people on the ballot who have our best interests at heart.
Rank choice voting, open primaries, etc. I think would be a good start. Anything at all that weakens the duopoly is a good start.
