No Email

An incoming graduate student wrote me an email to say he can’t write me an email because he can’t find my email address in the system.

And how is your week going?

    1. “possible you have a message feature on your uni page”

My university uses teams and anytime a student sends me a message there it also shows up as email.

So probably something like that (or the student in question is a real dingbat).

      1. The student is not finding a way to write to me from another email box because he can’t figure out how to convert the last name in Outlook into an email address. Granted, it would take two clicks instead of one but it’s an operation one wants to believe a graduate student can perform.

Outlook is very user-hostile, yes, but people shouldn’t be defeated by it if they expect to pursue graduate studies.

        1. Ah, academic expectations. This is why it’s best I dropped out of college. I’m smart and my grades were good and my profs were all like: “drop me a line when you get published!”

But I am utterly defeated by PowerPoint, which is supposedly easy to use and every idiot does just fine with it. Every time I even *look* at it, it sucks out my life-force and renders me an inert simulacrum of a person: unable to move, think, or employ basic rational processes. I’ve never been subjected to Outlook, but maybe it, too, is a demonic invention to vampirize the unwary.

OMG! I hate PowerPoint and cannot imagine what some people might find interesting/useful about it…

PowerPoint is to education what bubonic plague was to medieval peasants…

I…. better stop before I go too far.]

Outlook is an email program that sucks buffalo eggs…. just confusing and tends to hide results or make things unduly difficult to find….

My uinversity had a perfectly good email system (though with small memory) and junked it for outlook (which can’t even decide that university email addresses aren’t spam…. it’s just that bad).
