Childish in Research

I’m evaluating a doctoral dissertation. On page 4, the author says, “the current system is profoundly unjust and creates suffering, pain, and violence.”

I want to claw my eyes out, and there are 514 pages to go.

    1. This isn’t my student. I’m on the dissertation committee for a student in Spain. Of course, if it were my student, I’d work on her writing in the process. But I’ll never have my own graduate students. We don’t have a graduate program.

  1. Learning how to write contrasts with “technical writing”. The latter addresses the forms of writing. Whereas the former addresses the substance of writing. Its the latter that’s absolutely a deal breaker and absolutely critical. Teach your wards how to prioritize and discern Primary from Secondary. Writing Literature 101.
