The funny thing is that the artists who made these very different products turned out to be husband and wife.

Really? I assume it’s inspired by it but it’s far more colorful and open than the real thing.

I don’t care what it is but it’s blowing my lid like nothing else I’ve seen at the exhibit.

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect that much light in the real thing, and certainly more plants and laundry on balconies. But a quick trot through image search for KWC yields:
Which I assume is the immediate inspiration 🙂
It could only be a few places. The window shapes say SE Asia, the crowding says dense metro area, but normally you don’t get anything that tall without it looking either sleek and wealthy (Seoul, Tokyo), or gray bland depressing and uniform (Beijing). That peculiar combination of density, shabbiness, and lively variation… that’s pretty much KWC and nowhere else.
