Main Problems

The number one problem in this country is that the concept of disparate impact is an accepted legal reality. It creates enormous issues in every area of endeavor.

The second most important problem is that immigration applications are accepted from people in the country illegally on the territory of the US.

Both issues require a significant change of the legal system.

      1. Yes, but if it weren’t “disparate impact” it’d be some other excuse.

Our government’s ability to keep spending more money than it takes in, year after year, is based on this. What are we spending all that money on? Who benefits? It’s been a problem for much longer than disparate impact has been a thing, but has escalated over time. There have always been DoD slush funds, fake ‘contractors’ who happen to be close personal friends of elected officials, etc. Disparate impact may be the hottest new label we slap on that graft. But isn’t it all just graft, metastasizing over time? Jobs programs for excess college grads, budget-justifying expenditures, DoD slush funds, ‘contracts’ for fake companies that happen to be run by close personal friends of elected officials…

That’s a big problem but it’s a symptom of the bigger problem, the neolibral semi-religious conviction that humans are all interchangeable widgets. That’s the belief that needs to be eliminated root and stem.

    1. I’d be very interested to hear if there’s anything like disparate impact in other developed countries or is it a specifically American quirk. You are absolutely right about the causes of this but I have a feeling that this particular manifestation of this mentality is very American.

Unfortunately, it is everywhere in Western society. The Marxist “slow march through the institutions”, mostly led by their feminist cohort, has infected not only academe, but finally society at large.  And given your position and intellect, your female intuition probably already knows that.

Mais moi aussi, because I was raised in a working class family on the sere prairie of western Saskatchewan ;-D

Okay, to be serious, basically we are once again looking at historic amnesia, even the term neoliberal is necessary to desperately avoid the word communist

    1. There are rumors that even Canada has started limiting immigration for unskilled labor. I don’t know how true it is but people are saying that if you can’t prove you’ll make above the median salary in your profession, they won’t take you.
