These people are evil and hell eagerly awaits them but what’s wrong with the parents? No kid needs to watch online shows at two. Or three, or five, etc. Of course, they won’t read if they are trained to depend on ready-made images instead of having their minds generate their own through reading.
Little neurotics with an impoverished, shallow subjectivity and a non-existent sense of self is a product of this approach.
Neighbor kid, aged 8, maybe 9, not terribly bright, but not retarded… determined to build a swimming pool, or perhaps a pond. The other kids helped out according to his directions. The project was not a success. My children reported to me on it later– they were confounded by the whole episode. The neighbor kid’s grand plan was to spread a tarp on the ground, and then dump buckets of water on it. Not dig a hole and line it, or build a berm or anything. Just put the tarp on the ground, fill with water. Because, apparently, that’s how it works in Minecraft.
How do you get through 8 years of life and have so little understanding of the physical world?
You grow up watching screens instead of interacting with physical space and physical objects.

That’s a disturbing story. And that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Parts of the brain simply atrophy because there’s no tactile stimulation, no engagement with the physical environment, etc. Very sad.

We are really, really clever monkeys. We *need* to be out there monkeying around with everything. There’s no virtual substitute for swinging from branches and figuring out how far you can fall without getting hurt.

It’s a bit sad, but be hopeful… this is how it starts. My first treehouse was about as stupid, because I lived in books.
But that first taste of trying to build it yourself should (and in my case was) encouraged.
Fail harder. Build more. Have a ball.

And yes, my aside not withstanding, the people Miss Clarissa is describing are evil.

Or in the witless service if evil. More and more the shiny neo-con techno-utopia is looking like That Hideous Strength
