Given that the narrative “we are brothers” is the (not a but the) cause of the war, what the Pope said is massively stupid.
But what do you expect if the same Pope recently prattled about how it’s important to “build bridges where many build walls” which is particularly entertaining knowing that the Vatican sits behind a wall.
I hope Mykola Bychok, the youngest new cardinal, will one day become Pope and restore Catholicism to its former glory.

I had high hopes when Francis was elected Pope, since he was the first Jesuit and first Pope from outside Europe. As a Catholic, it pains me to say this, but Pope Francis isn’t a very good Pope. He’s allowed Pachamama into the Vatican and constantly apologizes for the Catholic excesses towards Mexico and the Inquisition when all this happened a long time ago.
I guess his comment shows historical ignorance about Russia and Ukraine, a lot of people think they’re the same peoples. In general, many Westerners are ignorant about Eastern Europe, they seem to think that the area is just a bunch of primitive white people with funny accents. I’ve had Polish friends get asked if they use electricity and if they watch TV and Americans seemed surprised they knew all the latest TV shows and pop music, as Eastern Europeans still lived behind the Iron Curtain or in medieval times
