While the American Twitter is engulfed in the H1-B drama, the Ukrainian Twitter is battling over which grain should be used to make the traditional Christmas dish called kutia.
As a result my feed looks like this:

Not a fan…. I don’t know how long it’s been in Poland, the spelling suggests a recent arrival probably came with Poles from what is now Western Ukraine after WWII. They ended up in Western Poland (used to be Germany) and the first time I had it it was made by someone from those ‘regained lands’ (as western Poland is euphemistically called).
Nevertheless, it’s always reminded me of a delicacy for horses rather than something I want to eat…

I hate it, too. It’s one of those traditions that need to die a painful death. I don’t believe anybody really enjoys eating it.

Exactly! A bunch of sticky hard grains and some nuts with poppy seeds to get between your teech and honey to make everything stickier and nastier….. yech
I also don’t like makowiec (Polish poppy seed cake) make with a thick mass of poppy seeds that’s… too much. I like poppy seeds in moderation (like babka with poppy seeds mixed into the batter in reasonable amounts) but that thick poppy seed sludge with orange peel and raisins mixed in… yech

I’m really tired of the kutia but the H1-B drama gave me material for my new show, so that’s fine. I need new material every week now, and it’s harder for a US audience because I’m not describing anything that’s dramatically new for them.
