Hollywood Whores

Matt Walsh’s documentary Am I Racist? that was extremely popular with viewers and was a cultural phenomenon wasn’t nominated for the Oscars. But a Russian warmongering propagandist Yura Borisov is nominated for a role in a film that was made, in the words of its director, “to remove the stigma that’s been applied to prostitution.”

Hollywood is celebrating whores and propagandists of the lowest caliber.

  1. I wonder why a Russian should feel the need for making a film “to remove the stigma that’s been applied to prostitution.”

Sometimes I feel like screaming that this world is just too much and I can’t take it anymore, thank God rationality is soon restored, but the mind despairs.

Calling it now… the director will be involved in a sex scandal involving underaged prostitutes (not an accusation… a prediction with, I think, a 75% chance of coming true).

  3. “Anora” was written and directed by Sean Baker, to set the record straight. Baker is a truly marvellous film-maker, an artist who is very familiar with people who despise those who work in prostitution and/or pornography – that is, people who despise his friends.

    1. “despise those who work in prostitution and/or pornography”

I don’t despise those who work in prost or porn but both fields are stigmatized for a reason (they are very bad for both physical and mental health) and the only reason someone wants them to not be stimgatized is for more people to engage in p&p…

      1. I’ve known at least one personally. Not a life I’d wish on anybody. Illegally working in a strip joint at 15, drugs and prostitution followed shortly thereafter, nearly killed by a post-abortion hemorrhage at twentysomething, abusive husband, the works. Probably started out there thanks to drunk abusive father…

I have no idea why we want to normalize that. So the degradation can be opened up to nice middle-class girls too?

        1. I particularly love the inane expression “sex work is work.” Slavery is also undeniably work, so what? Nobody is saying we should celebrate it because of that.

    2. Yes, it’s so marvelous to promote a genocidal warmongering propagandist while the war is going on. Yesterday, for example, Russians unleashed a new type of silent drones on Kharkiv. You can’t hear them and can’t hide. That’s the kind of stuff your marvelous artist supports.

Honestly, didn’t expect this from you, of all people

      1. I hear you. Yura Borisov supports Putin.

Sean Baker is a film-maker who does not seem to choose his cast according to his own world-political views, whatever they may be. That is the norm, I think.

In any case, my point was as narrow as that. You seemed to be attributing Borisov’s views to Baker. I did not intend to upset you.

        1. That’s ok, I know you didn’t mean it. But these actors are a dime a dozen. Choosing a Goebbels type is not a necessity. Borisov isn’t a famous actor who’d bring large audiences to the movie.

    3. I haven’t seen this film, so I make no judgement on its artistic merits. Maybe it’s great. But “he’s defending his friends against MEAN PEOPLE” is not a compelling argument in either art or politics.

  4. The widely panned film “Emilia Perez” has also been nominated for many Oscars. Leftists do not like this film either, so it’s a bit confusing how this happened.

    1. “Leftists do not like this film”

Nobody seems to like it… I saw an excerpt on youtube that was awful beyond normal human comprehension…. (supposedly a ‘musical’ number that made the flat rapping of the horribly overrated ‘Hamilton’ seem like Italian opera in comparison).

The only thing I can imagine is they want a man to win ‘best actress’…. and the only reason I can imagine that they want that is that they are totally blind to reality and/or are actively engaged in destroying film as a medium….
