How AI Tells Time

The way my brain works, I sometimes get confused and hassled about very basic things. For example, today I need to figure out fast of I could do an appearance at 7pm Kyiv time. In the moment, I had zero understanding of when that was and was experiencing brain fog. So I asked the AI, and woe betide me. Here’s the response:

All I wanted was to know the time, and this is what it did to me.

  1. That is because you used AI as if it were a search engine, which it isn’t. Next time you want to know something like that, just google it. You’ll get it in two seconds flat.

    1. I know, my friend, I give talks on how AI is not a search engine and only idjits use it that way. And then I fell into this trap myself. I was barely awake and confused, that’s why.

  2. I do a ‘search’ using “what time is it in [??]” and then look at my watch. This requires some mathematical skills to then determine what future times will be.

AI answers put me mind of those kinds of people that when you asked them what time is it they tell you how to build a watch. You have simple provided the proof.

    1. That’s what I usually do but you know how sometimes it’s early in the morning, you are still groggy and confused, you are being put on the spot, and momentarily you can’t figure out if to add or subtract. This was that situation.
