Trump is not smart to begin with and Carney standing up to him has completely rattled him. There isn’t a specific strategy behind him saying this, just a lack of thinking.

Carney is not standing up to anything. He’s trying to mask the complete moral bankruptcy of his party, and if Canadians buy into this, they deserve everything that happens next.

Maybe someone around him got a clue and told him that given negative feelings in Canada toward him…. the best thing he could do for Canada is to praise the libs so that the conservatives will have a chance again?
