Story about Chivalry

I’ve been a little overwhelmed. I’m teaching an online asynchronous course, which puts me into a vile mood but nobody is paying for anything else. Our university restructurings is underway, and there’s unrelenting weirdness at work. My writing is as intense as ever. So in any case, my car looks downright indecent because I have no time to go to a car wash.

This is me taking a nap in the office on Saturday:

Today is Pentecost, and it means an extra long service. As if any Orthodox service could ever be not extra long but you know what I mean. So while I was inside, one of the parishioners cleaned my car. It had nasty tar stains that I didn’t know how to erase, and he took care of all that.

As nice as the action itself is the reason for it. The guy is sweet on my friend and is trying to impress her.

  1. “Old, weatherbeaten, broad-shouldered, strong-legged Zaporozhtzi, with black
    or silvered moustaches, rolled up their trousers, waded up to their
    knees in water, and dragged the boats on to the shore with stout ropes;
    others brought seasoned timber and all sorts of wood. The boats were
    freshly planked, turned bottom upwards, caulked and tarred, and then
    bound together side by side after Cossack fashion, with long strands of
    reeds, so that the swell of the waves might not sink them. Far along the
    shore they built fires and heated tar in copper cauldrons to smear the
    boats.”

    Okay, this is stretch…you don’t use tar to build moder cars 🙂

    I get your Cossack parishioner trying to get close to your friend, though. ” I gotta do what I gotta do”

      1. I hit a 5 gallon drum on the expressway with real tar in it. Fell from one of those contractor’s pick up trucks. Took some effort to clean it all.

    Since all the nice young single men started showing up at our church, I’ve been concerned about the dearth of comparable numbers of nice young single ladies. But I suspect like you, I watch out for these possibilities with a matchmaker’s eye. Was gratified this week to see one of the (few!) young ladies go out of her way to have a long conversation at coffee hour with a close-in-age fellow…

    We have had huge numbers of chrismations for three years now. About time we had some weddings!

      Let nobody accuse me of product placement, though. I only said because I was asked. No commercial partnership is happening with that brand. Or any other. 😁😁
