A Harsh Cope

The cope is so harsh, I actually feel bad for both these dudes:

The evidence that Trump knows what he’s doing and has been very proactive in this situation is overwhelming but yes, let’s totally hide from reality. It’s worked so well so far.

  1. Yup, cope.

Whether Israel “dragged” US into war through trickery or whether american politicians willingly do israel’s bidding is an academic debate at this point. Neither conclusion is flattering for america.

      1. It doesn’t take boots on the ground. Just one U.S. strike on Iranian soil is enough (giving Iran a pretext for retaliation in the future), and the whole “No New Wars” narrative goes up in flames. No staged leaks of Vance nervously texting “uhh guys, are we sure about bombing Iran?” in Signal group chats is going to save him. If Trump pulls the trigger (and looks like he will), Vance and GOP is politically dead in 2028.

        1. And for what? What is the big gain that’s worth all this?

I truly despair. We have crucially important things to do in the country, and now everything is on pause while we sit here waiting to see if there’s a war with Iran.

          This is simply dumb.

I’m sure the fifth column in America, full of influential figures whose loyalty lies with another country, will have a million justifications ready to go.

@anewpolicyorg‘s sources tell us that a meeting yesterday between U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu devolved into a shouting match over Netanyahu’s objections to U.S. plans to evacuate our citizens from Israel and the wider region.

U.S. officials believe that Netanyahu’s objection was predicated on his desire to hold U.S. citizens at risk in order to increase the likelihood of U.S. entry into Israel’s conflict with Iran.

          2. IMO, there won’t be any war with Iran because Iran doesn’t have the ability to wage any kind of war with America and Americans have zero interest in waging war with Iran. Israel I would say is fully justified. because Iran has been hellbent on destroying them since the Ayatollah took power. They funded Hamas’s attack, then had their proxy Hezbollah started rocketing Israel, then themselves launched major attacks at Israel, and now were getting close to getting nuclear bombs.

This also is good for the U.S., because they also are hellbent on destroying us too. Israel basically does the dirty work that otherwise we would have to do.

            1. This situation has strong “Iraq has WMDs” vibes, and I remember how that turned out. Most importantly, there’s no appetite for yet another war in the Middle East among Americans. Nobody voted for another war. This isn’t democracy when people yet again are given what they don’t want while deportations are once again not happening.

              Like

              1. Not quite. The Bush administration really stretched things and ignored the contrary evidence regarding WMDs. On this, the IAEA itself has said Iran has gone beyond the enrichment needed for a peaceful nuclear program and is pursuing weaponization. And unlike America, the Israeli’s intelligence is VERY good.

              2. Putin is not like the Iranian mullahs. 1Russia has never been bent on destroying any specific ethnic group like the Nazis were (I am not saying they didn’t engage in racism or racial oppression). Their aim under the Soviet Union was to spread communism and also to enlarge the Soviet empire so that the “imperialist capitalist fascist West” would not be able to ever harm the sacred Soviet Union. We know the Soviets weren’t intent on destroying America because maps of America from Soviet government plans to eventually invade America show all manner of geographical features that would be meaningless in the event of a war of annihilation. That is because the Soviets were planning to invade America eventually and make it communist. Russia today under Putin wants to rebuild the old Soviet empire.

Now I am not saying the Russians haven’t been highly oppressive (they are). But they are not adherent to a maniacal death cult that wants to annihilate what it considers as evil (Jews and America). Russia is not like the imperial Japanese or the Nazis. The only thing that has stopped Putin though is brute force, with lots of material and financial help from America. So we should IMO do the same with Israel to the Iranians.

The neocon warmongering got way out of hand but it has unfortunately led to a movement too far in the opposite direction, of being borderline isolationist. We tried that between WWI and WWII and it ultimately didn’t work. Trying to stretch things to avoid war also is what led Hitler to become as strong as he did.

              3. As I explained on numerous occasions, Russians participate in a murderous death cult more than anybody else on the planet. I don’t see the point of repeating myself again. I understand that the truth is too heavy because there’s absolutely no solution. But I’m not choosing to hide from the truth. It’s the game of hide-and-seek with reality that created the dangerous myth of “we won the Cold War” and is leading America into one Middle Eastern quagmire after another.

Why do we have to do anything? What happens after the Iranian government is toppled? Who’s going to deal with the ensuing chaos? Will Israel take responsibility for the nation-building that surely must accompany this invasion? Does Israel have the will (let alone the resources) to manage the aftermath of the regime change? It’ll come back to us.

Unless the plan is to do regime change and walk away and create Iraq-like conditions post-invasion in a country of 90 million people. Will neocons ever fucking admit they’ve been wrong about everything? What have the last 20 years taught you?

“This time it’ll be different.” Oh fuck off!

              1. And don’t forget, this will most certainly mean yet another wave of Muslim migration to Europe.

                Worst idea ever.

Also, the whole excuse that we can’t let an unhinged regime develop nukes is dumb. Russia has nukes. So do China and Pakistan. That cat is out of the bag. Starting new wars to prevent something that already exists is moronic.

              2. Because Iran is as intent on destroying us as they are Israel. People have this idea that because we haven’t been nuked, it can’t happen. Yes, and 9/11 sounded like the plot to a bad made-for-TV movie until it happened. We have seen genocidal, maniacal regimes before in the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese.

And we don’t need to do regime change to stop their nuclear program.

              3. So is Russia. And Russia actually has nukes. And, unlike Iran, has clearly, openly, and insistently expressed the desire for the US demise. Now what?

              4. Clarissa, China, Russia, and Pakistan are not unhinged regimes. They are quite intelligent and not driven by a maniacal hatred to destroy a particular people or country. Putin for example wants control of Ukraine. But he doesn’t want to kill all Ukrainians out of some maniacal hatred. He doesn’t mind killing innocent Ukrainians to conquer the place but mass killing isn’t the specific goal. Iran is different and has been HELLBENT on destroying Israel since the Ayatollah took control. It is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, with multiple terrorist proxies focused on attacking Israel. It repeatedly takes indirect and direct actions to attack Israel. And it says it wants to destroy Israel and America. And we know from history, if an enemy says he intends to destroy you, believe him.

There are many places where people come together and anesthesize themselves with “all Russia wants is…” fantasies. This is not one of those places.

            3. Also, when has this parasitic country and its people ever stand by our side? How many troops did Israel send in the Vietnam war? In the first gulf war? In Iraq during the GWOT?

Tiny countries like Australia have sent their troops to support us in our wars. That’s being an ally. This fucking country just takes and takes. One single american soldier’s life is worth more than the entire population of these bloodthirsty leeches.

              Like

              1. Israel doesn’t have the manpower to be sending troops into other places in the world because they need all available manpower for defense of their own country. And Israel doesn’t ask us to fight their battles. I would say the parasitic countries are more like France and Germany, who freeload off of our defense budget.
