Mamdanis at War

The Mamdani win is typical class war. He is a leader of the wealthy (and wealthy wannabes) who want to destroy the workers and the middle class. The goal is to have everybody live in a slum while a small coterie of rich Mamdanis enjoy extreme opulence and use the plebs for medical experiments and betting games.

    1. I posted before seeing these specific numbers but it wasn’t hard to figure out. Mamdani’s affect, speech patterns, body language, etc are aimed at disarming the $100K+ crowd. Working people see him as a grifter and have no use for him. But the wealthier they are, the more defenseless they are against his grift.

Which it most certainly is. They guy is not sincere. Not that it would change anything if he were but he’s faking all this in order to dupe the well-to-do.

      1. Do socialists ever look at results like this and rethink their basic assumptions about power and class? Or is it just β€œthe proles have false consciousness!” all the way down, forever and always?

        1. No. They think they’re the Smartest People, and what they actually believe in is Rule By the Smartest.

Which maybe sounds good in a surface sort of way: oh, of course the experts should be in charge. But in practice what it amounts to is that the people who regard themselves as the Smartest Who Should Rule… despise everyone else and don’t think they deserve anything good.

So, you know, why bother with tackling crime, keeping the streets clean, a good quality food supply, real education available to all, nice public places, etc. when most people aren’t smart enough to appreciate it properly? They don’t see any problem with a world where all the good things are walled into little enclaves for their enjoyment, and the rest of the world is left to rot. This is part of the drive for illegal immigration: on some level they know those living in the wasteland next door don’t wish them well. They need domestics without those priors.

        2. The denial of a connection between actions and their consequences is an integral part of Leftist mentality. For example, they are convinced that puberty blockers can be easily reversed. Or that parenting is completely divorced from its results. Or that swapping populations like puzzle pieces won’t have terrible costs. And so on.

          1. This is very much connected with being raised for, and then having, an entire career in air-conditioned environments. When your whole existence is climate-controlled, everything starts to look like a spreadsheet problem, instead of a people problem. People look like interchangeable widgets because you never have any contact with them.

I am cranky while recovering from a visit with PMC inlaws. MIL spent half the visit bragging about convincing her less-affluent friends not to have more children, and complaining about everybody she knows who has more than three. It’s a major psychological hangup for her. I wish she’d deal with it. At least she didn’t talk to us about getting my husband a vasectomy. This time. That I know of. FIL is currently looking for a publisher for his book on how and why Smart People should run everything. He of course considers himself the smartest of Smart People. He has no friends, barely leaves the house, etc. but he number-crunched for the government for 30 years and that qualifies him to dictate to the rest of us. (giant eyeroll)

They are retired, planning on borrowing from their house equity until they die, for regular expenses. Incensed because their grant-writer friends who used to work for USAID don’t know what they’ll do for a living after the Trump ‘parachute’ money runs out (they’re still getting paid for now, just not working… and not, apparently, looking for work even though they’ve got nothing else to do), because… even though they are Very Smart People, they are totally unequipped to do anything *but* grant-writing?

I’m so confused. My husband and I are not mentally impaired, but when we say it’s hard to find a good job (and by good job, we mean anything that pays even a median income), we are told it’s because we are lazy, we should work harder, etc. But if you live in the DC area and you’re Very Smart People, it is an injustice if the government declines to pay you enough to afford the mortgage on your modest $500k house, to… what exactly is involved in “grant-writing” anyway?

I was good and bit my tongue. I did NOT say “I voted for that”. But I was thinking it.

            1. That colleague I wrote about, her daughter is one of the DC apparatchiks who were afraid of losing their jobs. They are good people at heart but they have this knee-jerk superciliousness that they don’t even notice. “Why do you go to church? Only hicks go to church” is one of the most memorable comments I received from them. It’s this almost childish cluelessness about how people live.

I also remember how this colleague was shocked that a couple we know had their third child. “Why would anybody need so many kids?” “But you have four,” I reminded her. Of course, her situation is different because she had reasons.

This is a long way of saying that I share your feelings. It’s very, very annoying.

              1. Right? My grandmother was very opposed to anybody having more than one child. But that was because she couldn’t have more than one and it devastated her. This I can at least understand. Seeing multi child families reminded her of what she desperately wanted but couldn’t have. Why women who have several kids take this position I will never grasp.

  1. Why is the right freaking out so much about this guy? How’s he any different than DeBlasio, and why so much interest in the internal politics of NYC.

Thought you all were happy in your quaint and perfect little towns.

      1. So now NYC is the greatest city? Based on what I read in right leaning sources it’s a cesspool just as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, etc.

      2. One city and town after another is devastated by these exact same ideas and policies. I saw the celebration party for Mamdani, and people there were off their heads with joy. They are inflicting an equivalent of a wartime destruction on their city and celebrating. It’s truly something.

Seriously, what an absurd question. Why so much interest in anything that you comment about on this blog? You’ve commented on Iran, Ukraine, Russia. Why so much interest in those places? How does it affect you personally? Really, is this the standard we should be adopting from now on to decide if we should post about something?

      1. I’m just getting bombarded with news on this guy everywhere, including this blog. It’s a city democratic primary to see who is going to be mayor, not even the real election. I’m having a hard time understanding why this is headlines news.

It seems this guy has hit a massive nerve and I’m trying to understand why. That’s all.

        1. I’ll engage in good faith. It actually is important news. It marks a real shift in Democratic party politics. A changing of the guard, so to speak. This is the future of the party: a POC striver who figured out that socialism was his ticket to power in America. The party desperately needed a young Bernie Sanders (who coincidentally also started his career as a mayor of a city) and it may have finally found it. So yes, it’s definitely worthy of attention, both from supporters and critics.

          1. Yes, and what’s wrong with a young Bernie Sanders type leading New York City?

If anything we should all be applauding this changing of the guard. Not condemning it because we saw some Twits online and because “socialism baaaad”

Everytime someone gets called a socialist my guard goes up. It’s generally a made up Boogeyman word just as the word Nazi is to the left.

He wants to tax white neighborhoods more. He says it openly in his platform. Openly singles out white people.

There is a video of him explaining how he wants to substitute police with social workers.

              1. Because they learn nothing!!!

We have the same phenomenon on a smaller scale here. Crowds of people left Chicago during COVID lockdowns because we had none downstate. As a result, we now have a new woke mayor and there’s a festival in the park every summer advertising BDSM, swinging, and genderqueer services. We don’t want those people! They bring their weirdness with them.

    3. Imagine New York turning into St Louis. Or Detroit or Cincinnati. Can there be a larger symbol of the defeat of our whole civilization?

These bastards have eaten so many iconic American cities. Giving them New York to destroy? My heart bleeds at the thought.

        1. I wasn’t born in America but I’m very attached to the symbols of American culture and it scares me to imagine that NYC can turn into what St Louis or Detroit are. So many American cities and towns have been ceded to this curse. And now they have their sights set on New York? Haven’t they destroyed enough?
