Fair enough, there were good reasons why I moved to Maths and Sciences away back in the 60’s ;-D
But there are several bloggers here with some considerable knowledge pf history here, many of them could correct your ideas regarding negotiations. It is not always the case, but in many instances the terms of surrender are negotiated, most often for political reasons. For example, Grant’s terms to Lee provided very generous terms yielding a rapid end to the war through the honourable surrender of individual armies rather than than those of the Confederate states as a whole. There were no prison camps, the soldiers went home. Only today do the shit for brains brigade stir up trouble by destroying statues and the like.
There were also clearly negotiations ending both WW1 and WW2, many believe that the harsh terms of the former led in large part to the latter.
