So the hostages did get released. Wow, this is an extraordinary win for the Trump administration.

I’m almost tempted to watch CNN to see how they are explaining Trump achieving the ceasefire they seemed to passionately desire.

  2. Hamas violated the agreement from its very start, announcing the return of only four deceased hostages out of the 28 it holds in the Gaza Strip.

    While the future of Gaza without Hamas is being discussed in Sharm el-Sheikh, Hamas is holding public executions right there in Gaza.

        3. I guess IDF soldiers should let themselves be slaughtered like sheep to prevent such ‘violations’.

          According to the signed agreement, IDF remains in Gaza and continues to hold around 50% of its territory. Of course, there will be terror attacks and of course every killed Palestinian will be presented by most media as an innocent bystander.

          What we have in Gaza now is described well by an expert in the Arab world:

          I’m personally interested in what will actually come out of this summit [in Sharm el-Sheikh], because in Israel they won’t lift a finger and won’t allow anyone to build anything until the bodies of killed hostages are returned, and then until all the tunnels in Gaza are destroyed – and that will take a long time.

          A long time during which they can deal with HAMAS directly. Yes, directly.

          No one will leave HAMAS in power in Gaza. That’s simply not an option (in particular, not an option for the Prime Minister who fucked up on October 7 and wants to continue his political career).

          These two years were the beginning of a sobering phase in Israeli realities.

          Now is the time to wage a completely different kind of hybrid war. And here time works in Israel’s favor, not HAMAS’s.

          Yes, the skeptics who say Israel supposedly lost this war annoy me a little.

          Not only have we not even finished the first stage of the deal(!) -so such mourning is way premature – I’ll add this:
          If Israel had lost this war, Israel would no longer exist. Or you don’t fully understand the danger we were actually in on October 7, if Iran and Hezbollah had been morally ready for such an early trigger pull by Sinwar.

          And to consider the only measure of victory the immediate destruction of HAMAS, ignoring the other achievements of these two years that have significantly weakened or even destroyed the tentacles of the largest threat to Israel’s existence in decades, is just an annoying short-sightedness.

        4. Only now an article appeared on an official news site. (Previously, I saw on telegram channel of one reporter):

          Military said troops opened fire on suspects who crossed the ‘yellow line’ in violation of the cease-fire but did not infiltrate Israeli positions; Palestinian sources said five people were killed in Gaza City
          …
          Although Israeli maps show that the army still controls more than half of Gaza’s territory, the actual withdrawal appears to be deeper than indicated, with defensive positions now set closer to the border. The line remains loosely defined, and Tuesday’s incident was not the first time civilians have approached it.

          In recent days, there have been several instances of warning fire aimed at Palestinians nearing the line. In one case, dozens of Gazans were seen scavenging at an abandoned IDF outpost near Khan Younis, prompting an air force drone to fire warning shots to drive them away.

          Since the cease-fire took effect, IDF troops along the buffer zone have operated under strict rules of engagement, authorizing fire only to deter immediate threats or when armed militants pose a direct danger to soldiers.

  3. is Hamas continuing to rule Gaza.

    As long as it remains in power, there can be no peace for us and no hope for Palestinians.

    Btw, one of Israeli hostages (who returned before) knew Arabic and wrote an interesting book re his experiences – ‘Hostage’ by Eli Sharabi.

    1. If it’s not this Hamas, it’s going to be some other Hamas. That’s simply how they are. What did you expect, that they’d suddenly become peaceful and normal? This is never going to happen. Removing Hamas is a fantasy, like removing Putin. What remains after you remove them is just as bad.

  4. Imagine the reactions in the world and in America , when we start attacking again. 😦

    But Hamas has already begun to restore its former positions, carrying out executions of opponents and those suspected of collaborating with the Israeli authorities – this is an obvious and inevitable downside.

    Just two years ago, many analysts almost immediately wrote that there were only two possible scenarios – either the destruction of Hamas or the release of the hostages. And they are completely incompatible.

    Netanyahu decided to try to combine them – as a result, a significant number of people taken captive by terrorists died, while the militants themselves, although losing their stockpiles of rockets and heavy weapons, as well as part of their command, remained.
    And now they will rebuild and strengthen themselves. For what? – to repeat.

    The hopes that naive fools will appear, willing to send their soldiers into the ruins of Gaza for the disarmament and destruction of militants, are minimal. The calculations that alternative centers of power and authority will appear in Gaza within two years are being shot down right now along with everyone who dared to doubt the inviolability of the Hamas boot and try to behave independently.

    What next? Conduct another Israeli intervention, retake the positions surrendered now, flatten the enclave? After all the beautiful words and promises today, this will cause an outcry of indignation both in the world and even in the White House.

    But no real alternatives are visible. Except perhaps to hope that periodic targeted strikes and operations will prevent the terrorists from rearming. Once already believed in something like this this.
