Cultured Uber

I couldn’t walk as much as I usually do in Madrid because I’m running low on energy after all the flights. Plus, it’s hot. Not as bad as at home but still uncomfortable. I took an Uber and really lucked out with the driver. It was an older woman, very cultured. She speaks several languages, and the music in the speakers was Chopin. The driver started apologizing for the choice of music but I assured her that it made my day.

It’s kind of insane that people like this woman have to drive an Uber but humanity’s loss was my gain today.

Are you sure she has to or is it a choice? (always looking for the silver lining, yeah, that’s me)

I do think that the more neoliberalism advances the less use it has for either genuine intellectual curiosity or aging… That is people who truly embrace neoliberalism have to give up a big part of their intellect and either go with the flow and be battered about or have a laser like focus on a small area of life and miss a lot of great things… ‘well-rounded’ and ‘neoliberal’ don’t really go together.

Also, Paul Skallas recently observed that Europe’s sole remaining civilizational mission is pensions, which are anathema to the neoliberal mindset which requires you hustle until you’re in a box.

I suppose Skallas is right: what an indictment for Europe. We’re cooked!
