The China Pivot

I have changed my mind about China and have become a fan. That happened because I discovered the only fast food I like, and that is Panda Express. Which I know has the most tenuous connection to actual Chinese food but who cares? It’s still very enjoyable.

Of course, I don’t get the rice and only ask for very specific items on the menu in very small boxes. But it’s done. I’m now pro-China.

    1. Dumplings, unfortunately, are out but they have broccoli beef, teriyaki chicken, spicy beef with sprouts. I can’t believe that I actually like it!

Maybe I should try reading Chinese literature. Does it exist? Does anybody know?

      1. do you know if they add sugar and cornstarch to those dishes? Were you able to check that they were ok with your blood sugar?

Look up Cao Xuequin, Dream of the Red Chamber, also known as Story of the Stone. You’re in for a treat.

      1. Just because you like one type of quasi-Chinese food, doesn’t mean you have to become a fan of China. China still aids and abets Russia in its war against Ukraine. For that alone I would never be a fan of China. And it’s still a repressive communist regime.

        1. Right? It would be really weird to start loving China after one meal at Panda Express. Really really weird. Which might suggest that the post wasn’t altogether serious.
