Neither party offers or even tries to offer such people anything to slow down, let alone reverse, their economic downslide. But Democrats compensate the economic despoliation to which they subject the most high-IQ people by offering them endless possibilities to feel morally superior. This way, the smart crowd can still feel upper-class. It finds the economic trappings of upper-class life increasingly out of reach but at least it can lay claim to the refined sensibilities of the well-heeled.

Republicans don’t make a play for this group at all.

      It is to the Dems because they are offering something. What are we offering? The educated, the women, the young – what is our offer? Other than telling them that they are shit, that is.

        to the educated: You stupid losers went into debt to get an edumacation so you could contribute to the economy? Ha ha ha!!!! Enjoy your debt, losers!

        to women: We must repeal the 19th amendment! It is the root of all evil.

        to the young: Screw you losers! We’d cut you up and sell you for parts if we couldn’t make more money by outsourcing…. whatever it is you do to the Philippines and AI.

        I’m not sure if that’s intentional but it’s hard to pay attention to rightwing discourse at present and come to different conclusions about their messaging.

          You have to know that there are few easy answers from either the right or the left. Much of the West are probably already in recession, severe austerity just might trigger a depression. But debasing the currency further with additional government borrowing would only work if there is a multiplyer, if the nation is actually building useful infrastructure i.e., buildings, pipelines, powerlines, highways, etc. And one thing that is absolutely necessary throughout the entire West;, illegal aliens must be sent back, because young citizens need and deserve employment at Western wages.

        I’m not seeing it.

        They’ve got too much identity wrapped up in being superior to the working class, in an environment where degree-holders have been so overproduced that they will never make more money. They’ve been rigorously trained out of any kind of moral virtue, so they can’t compete on clean living and chastity. All they’ve got left is opinion signaling: “Well, at least we’re not like those gross, bigoted thugs”.

        The current ‘right’ has a better shot at any number of other demographics. No reason to waste resources on that one.

          I mean, I’m open to other interpretations, but from here, it looks about as realistic as, say, Israel winning over the Gaza demographic, in spite of their being basically raised from childhood in an ISR-hating cult.

          It wouldn’t be a case of “winning over” anybody. That demographic needs deprogramming.

          Yeah, even in “the good old days”, I added a diploma to get steady employment, and there were years where we actually made more income as expediters, transporting materiel in the bush. And Mike Rowe has been trying to encourage youth to get back in the trades for years.

    Not true, as misguided as Biden’s student loan forgiveness was, it would have helped out a lot of folks in this demographic a lot.

    A big part of the problem is our current political establishment is completely controlled by wealthy private interests. There have been lots of laws passed specifically to benefit the wealthy elite, but we try to pass something to help lower income people or students, and there is very strong push back against that. Same thing for healthcare, education, and others. But tax cuts that massively benefit the wealthy, sure, no problem.

    As much as people don’t like Mamdani, he was strongly opposed by this wealthy elite to the tune of millions of dollars being pumped against him. Don’t know much about the guy or his platform, but this visceral reaction makes me think something interesting is cooking there.

      Mamdani was funded by the Soros money. Alex Soros posed for photos with him congratulating him on the win.

      Student loans are complicated in that anybody can get free or almost free higher education in this country. Forgiving the loans of those who financed an expensive “experience” with these loans is unfair to those who went the route of self-control and responsibility.

      Removing state and federal regulation and denying funding to colleges that increase tuition to cover administrative overhead and not instruction costs would help. My university is closing all vacated tenure lines to feed the mushrooming administrative and compliance apparatus. Only in the last week, I’ve had to do 3 different trainings that I do every year and know by heart. If we could get rid of them (and we can’t because they are state-mandated), that would already be good savings.
