Newcomers

At the parking lot, we were blocked dead by a huge snow plough driven by a pair of Cubans who have been in the country for 10 days, don’t speak a word of English, had never seen snow before, but already have a job driving the snow plough.

I had to look at two dozen photos of the Cubans posing against the snowstorm with their wives before I could drive out. I love Cubans. It was a very pleasant encounter. For them, too, I’m sure, because who else around here speaks Spanish?

  1. This should be happening at such a scale that it would be impossible for CBP to highlight individual cases. Did you see the biden CBP social media account bragging about every migrant they let in? They just kept their head down and let millions in without anyone knowing about it.

Just the fact that CBP is posting this means it’s engagement bait for the lowest IQ GOP/Trump cultists. Nothing else.

      1. Dunno, they busted a landscaping business here not long ago, arrested 35 people. AFAICT, business was shuttered because they couldn’t replace the employees. Popular taco joint also closed until further notice because proprietor’s mom suddenly having visa difficulties. My mother knows at least three people who are still here, but making plans to return (to Honduras?) because their authorization on “the app” is no longer valid.

And the houses with nine dudes living in them seem to be mostly cleared out.

It is, visibly, happening. But I’d wager the bulk of it is not LEOs storming in and arresting people, it’s more like the people mom knows, more quietly packing up and arranging to go home. If so, that’s probably for the best.

        1. …though I’d *much* rather see the business owners prosecuted. I think that’s the only way to take care of the longer-term problem.

        2. That is definitely the best way for everyone. Orderly, less expensive and so on.

Our local “conservative” news is now commonly acknowledging the national origin of arrested drug and sex traffickers as well. So much less “Auburn man” and more “Guatamalan, etc. national.” It doesn’t sound like progress but it is.
