There’s a land acknowledgement on Air Canada flights. “We will be flying over the lands that belong…”
Is there a living person with above room-temperature IQ who thinks it’s not embarrassing and stupid?
Don’t do it in front of foreigners, at least. Make it an in-house secret of local dysfunction.
I think the purpose of land acknowledgements is to serve as a xenophobic hazing ritual whose purpose is to make the country less attractive to smart resourceful foreigners. It is sort of working on me, in Canada.

“the purpose of land acknowledgements”
Well, we’ve already seen one purpose is to establish the idea that the land and home you bought isn’t really yours and the government can kick you off it for the sake of some Native American group (which may or may not have anything to do with the names listed in land acknowledgements and which may actually be a front for BlackRock property harvesters….
I’m sure there are other purposes, they may also be like grammar and spelling errors in scam emails – a way to sift out the smarter people so the more gullible can select themselves to be butchered…

Air Canada failed to deliver my suitcases which feels especially entertaining in this context.

Nah, it is meaningless, touchy-feely horseshit by guilt ridden, do gooders wanting to be seen as nice and sympathetic without actually having met, let alone having ever worked with, an Indian — and Indian is what the average Native calls themselves. We took the country the same way as their ancestors did, by war and/or threats of war. And many(most?) of us that have been here for generations likely carry some Indian parentage, particularly if they have French or Oatmeal Savage surnames ;-D

“Air Canada failed to deliver my suitcases”
What do you expect after flying over all those other people’s lands?

Yes, they probably chuck the suitcases out of the airplanes as compensation for poor “First Nations.”

Sorry they lost your luggage.
Actually, in this context I find it much less offensive than having a territorial acknowledgment before meetings that have nothing to do with indiginous matters. I oppose any kind of compulsory prayer…

The territorial acknowledgments are meaningless, but shit for brains politicians accepting UNDRIP is a time bomb.

We recovered the luggage! It helped that I’m a Spanish speaker with a sunny disposition.

Somewhat related: zionists love telling americans that their nation is creedal (“just declare that you believe in the constitution and you’re in!”) while pushing a blood and soil model for their own nation lol. Just shameless.
