The mother of the child is the best friend of the rapist’s husband. She thought she was doing a good thing by gifting him her baby.
What is wrong with all of these people, including the prosecutor, is not explained.

He traveled to the UK to rape a 12 year old girl. After being sentenced to 4 years in person by UK authorities, he was transferred back to the Netherlands to serve his sentence. There, they reduced his prison term to 13 months in accordance with Dutch law, which is somehow even more lax than UK law. He was welcomed back to Dutch beach volleyball almost immediately after his release from prison, despite his total, open lack of remorse. Then, once he went to the Olympics, the Dutch were surprised at the strong negative international reaction every single time they encountered it.
“After his first match at the Olympics, Dutch Olympic committee press secretary John van Vliet said: ‘We are protecting a convicted child rapist, yes … To do his sport as best as possible, at a tournament he qualified for.’ … [The Dutch National Olympic Committee] apologized for the psychological effect of Van de Velde’s nomination on sexual assault victims, saying they did not expect it to attract so much attention.”
His teammate was also “surprised” and “disappointed by the crowd” when the duo was regularly booed at the Olympics, saying “the past is the past.”
“I cannot do anything about his past anymore. I’m here to play with him. … So, yeah, I’m disappointed with it. But I think mentally we’re really strong, and I’m really strong to get through this, together. And we’re going to do that.”
I can’t even imagine being willing to play beach volleyball with this guy, but Dutch parents were happy to take his children to meet him and get pictures with him. This is a deeply diseased society.

Some facts about the Netherlands:
“Between 1990 and 2002, the Netherlands operated what was in effect an age of consent of 12, subject to qualifications. The relevant law, passed in November 1990, permitted sexual intercourse for young people between 12 and 16, but allowed a challenge by parents based on erosion of parental authority or child exploitation, which would be heard by a Council for the Protection of Children.” To be clear, under this law there could be no investigation without a parent complaint. The police could not start an independent investigation, not could a concerned teacher or neighbor make a report. If a parent had no issue with grown men raping their 12 year old child, it was perfectly legal.
“In 2020, the European Commission reported that in 2019, the Netherlands hosted 71% of the child porn detected in Europe by the Internet Watch Foundation.”
Euthanasia is explicitly legal starting at age 12 in the Netherlands, which is horrifying enough. However, it’s also de facto legal to euthanize your disabled infant (who obviously cannot consent in any way; so much for this being about bodily autonomy.) The Netherlands is probably a textbook example of what happens to a society where the ideology of the individual as absolute sovereign has been given free rein to capture every institution in the country to the extent that it is now the unquestioned default position of the majority of its inhabitants.
What is maddening is that the Dutch are so immersed within this mindset that they are unable to see it for what it is.
One of my brothers is married to a Dutchwoman (they live in England, though) and she seems unable to understand why most reasonable people find what is happening in the Netherlands immoral to the point of being monstruously grotesque. She cannot comprehend or accept the idea or even the value of morals going beyond a purely utilitarian or materialistic way of solving practical problems. My brother tells me that he’s always struck by the palpable absence of very elderly people in public plcases in the Netherlands, and he knows that the number of people being euthanised has been increasing at vertiginous rates over the past ten years.
