Let’s look at the positives and the negatives of the administration striking Venezuela and removing Maduro:
Positives:
- Maduro is legitimately terrible and turned Venezuela into a cesspool from which many of our problems here in America stem.
- Once Venezuela is free, Venezuelan refugees can go home.
- This is very upsetting to Putin and hits the Russian oil trade more than any of the pretense at sanctions done by the EU.
- Forgot to add: Sheinbaum is pissing herself with fear. Because this can happen to her narcoregime, too.
Negatives:
- Latin America will hate us even more and ally with Russia/China even harder.
- This will intensify the split among Republicans.
- Since nobody on here is helping, I found a negative myself: this will hit the already ailing Canadian economy since the US will no longer need Canada’s crude oil. I love Canada, and for me this is in the negative column.
What would you add to these lists?
Negatives:
Positives:
Overall, seems more like yet another Trump show rather than a well thought action plan. I guess we’ll see how things play out.

A positive: the Venezuelan people are dancing in the street. They are glad that this happened.

Very. The regime was horrible, very communistic. The corruption, the complete evisceration of the educated and refined classes by ghetto cannibals. Everything cultured and beautiful destroyed. A horrible, shitty regime.

Honestly don’t know what to think. My circle of acquaintance is all vacillating between “Holy crap can we actually do that?” and a kind of awe at how tidily and quickly it was done: apparently 3 hours in and out, no casualties (on our side anyway, not sure about the other guys). Which is pretty admirable just as a technical achievement, whether you think we *should* or not.
No idea if it’s a good thing or not. Guess we’ll see what the fallout is, when it arrives?

“Once Venezuela is free, Venezuelan refugees can go home.”
When will that be? Trump stated the U.S. would control Venezuela until a “safe, proper and judicious transition” to new leadership could be achieved, emphasizing that American oil companies would take over and rehabilitate the countryβs oil infrastructure. The refugees ‘can; go home but ‘will’ they.
This sounds a lot like what happened in Iraq. Regime change and control of the countries oil.
You are right about Mexico – they are next.

This is such a childish fantasy I don’t know what to say.
“Once Syria is free, Syrian refugees can go home.”
Can we get an update on this?

Venezuela is not Syria. Venezuela has no religious fanatics running around. Latin Americans have actual countries. They are not incapable of self-governance. They have problems, yes, but they are on a different civilizational level from Syrians. It’s like comparing eagles and ants.

This makes no sense. Iβm not talking about the capability of Syrians. Iβm asking about updates on the deportations of Syrians promised by western governments once evil Assad was toppled. Whatβs the status of these deportations now that Syria is governed by an administration friendly to America and israel?

Syria is as much of a mess as it was during Assad. There’s nothing to motivate people to go home. Venezuela, on the other hand, was she can once again be a real country.

Iβll bet my life that not more than 1% of the Venezuelans dancing in the streets of America would be interested in going back. Anyone claiming otherwise is living in a fantasy world.

It’s funny how right-wingers are indistinguishable from Jonah Goldberg every time america bombs a country. And Venezuelans aren’t going home.

The only guide to the actions of this administration: “Whatever Trump does, he does for Israel.” It really is that simple.

It’s very very hard for some people to understand that “poor brown victims” they champion don’t see themselves as any of these things and have their own understanding of their situation.
