Decluttering Rules

Wow, this is so great.

On further consideration, no, it’s completely useless. My clutter is exclusively books and clothes, and I love those puppies, and would not give them up even if a herd of elephants visited them for defecation purposes.

By the way, a consumerist personality feels the greatest joy not at the point of buying but at the point of throwing away. Because throwing away frees up space for more buying. Decluttering is the most consumerist activity out there.

  1. A japanese academic brought up a similar logic when we were drinking together at a bar after a conference, extolling the virtues of the bidet over toilet paper: “If shit fall on your arm, you wash or you wipe? Why anus different?”

  2. Love it. Shared on Facebook. We are expecting a new mattress to be delivered today, so had to declutter all the books around the bed. Did that by moving them to the floor in another room.

  3. elephant poop would bother me less than human.
I only get rid of trashy books or good books if I have a better copy. I even keep semi dumb books like charities paperbacks from the 1970s.
libraries suck now so I have to keep everything.

    1. Libraries: this makes me so sad. We used to be able to rely on our local library for about half of our homeschool texts: classic children’s literature and stuff. That’s changed completely just in the last ten years. I have to buy *all* our books now. I knew we were in trouble when we started finding Tomie dePaola books in good condition in the discards-for-sale.
