Sind Sie sich sicher?

Love German but the pronunciation is murdering me. Have you ever tried to pronounce this, for example?

The cat stares at me like I’m nuts when I start the “zee zee zee zee”.

      1. Yes, but do the local altlutherische agree with you? 😋 Have you ever made change from the collection plate?

Besides, you need enough Italian to enjoy great Deutsch Opera!

Joking aside, once you have mastered German, wouldn’t Italian be a lovely palate cleanser? Or Japanese: Your child will be about the age to enjoy Hiayao Miazaki films and to learn it with you.

        1. Wow, that’s uncanny! I absolutely was thinking Japanese had to be next.

I have become such an open book to my dear readers that they can now predict my behavior.

      2. Greek also is a great language for singing.

But if you are looking for a non-romance language with unique and interesting challenges: can’t recommend Viet enough. You note that English does with vocabulary what other languages do with grammar? Viet does neither. All words are one syllable, there’s no conjugating of verbs, grammar is squishy, and all the things that Euro languages do with vocabulary and grammar, Viet does with metaphor. It’ll rewire your brain 😉
