The parents of Klara’s best friend gave the kid an iPad for her 10th birthday. I thought they were good people, and here they go and do this to me.
I should have suspected that something was wrong when I found out that this little girl had already informed all her friends that she never wanted to get married or have any children. At this age, this translates as “my mom bitches constantly about her life.” I should have known that a device was the logical next step, but it was easier to live in denial.

These are well-to-do middle class white families. Fathers are very much there.
These are not the children of the low-IQ crowds I’m talking about here.

That sucks about the tablet, that is going to mess with the kid so bad. My Mom is exactly like that, all I heard from her about our Dad was complaining about everything, how men are lazy and cleaning sucks and that kids are a pain in the ass. Which is why my older brother and I are lifelong celibates and our autistic younger brother plays video games and watches porn, we grew up thinking families and kids suck

My mother told me my whole life that my birth ruined her life, so yeah. I wish people thought through the consequences of such behaviors before engaging in them.

I agree, kids are sponges and they’ll soak that up. I grew up thinking marriage and kids sucked and that they hold you back, I got the sense our parents didn’t like us much. My cousins were raised by parents who didn’t resent them and are happily partnered up with kids, but I’m reasonably content with reading lots of books and publishing online, my parents weren’t ready for us
