I’m reading the book by Diego Fusaro that I bought yesterday. I’m halfway done, but I’m not very impressed. He is criticizing the architecture of the inner world of a neoliberal achievement subject. But he is not talking about what makes it so attractive. The esoteric, metaphysical realms to which it can gain access are never discussed.

I know why this happens. If you deviate two millimeters from a 100% materialistic interpretation of reality, you’re considered a quack and a fool. So the transcendental powers of neoliberal are never discussed.

As a result, Fusaro sounds like a 15th-century peasant who somehow caught a glimpse of modern dentistry. “Ha ha! Can you imagine something this crazy?”

Yeah, but it works. And you wish you had it available to you.

Manifestation, tye abundance mindset, shadow work, the shamanic practices when you’re looking for something, they all sound admittedly cuckoo. Until, that is, you try them and they work. When you reach into the depths of yourself and extract miracles, it all becomes a lot less funny and kind of awe-inspiring. Fusaro describes the people who do all of this as marks, stupid victims. What he fails to understand is that if it didn’t work, people wouldn’t do it.

All of the existing denunciations of the neoliberal personhood ultimately fail because they come from people who never tried pineapple and are mocking those who have, for considering it tasty. “This hideous thing. Why would anybody want to eat that?”

Huh, I hadn’t thought of Jungian stuff as neoliberal, but it does make sense.

Everybody feels a little sheepish about asking St. Phanourios or St. Anthony for help finding their stuff, right up until they lose their car keys.

But… I’m not sure I see the connection to neoliberalism? I thought that was just human.

The difference between transcendence through religion and transcendence through neoliberal esoteric practices is that, with religion, you transcend into something bigger than yourself. With neoliberalism, you transcend your self into more of the self. You don’t open yourself to the universe because the neoliberal ego is larger than the universe. The dangers of that are obvious.
