Jeb Does Good

Jeb Bush finally did something important in this campaign: he released an ad that depicts Hillary winning the election. Everybody cheers, Hillary looks radiant, the voice over makes it clear that the win was unavoidable. The ad is supposed to be a dig at Trump but it’s much stronger at promoting Hillary.

It’s great that Jeb is spending his campaign money on preparing voters for Hillary’s inevitability as president. Let all of the money he has finally serve a good purpose.

Dehumanizing Refugees

In Germany, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are following the example of Denmark and searching the refugees with the goal of finding money and objects of value to confiscate.

The authorities of these countries leave no stone unturned in their search for ways of making newcomers feel as dehumanized and disaffected as possible. It’s clear that the refugees are not bringing huge wads of cash or sacks of diamonds. Taking away the sad €50 a refugee might be carrying over the limit of €350 in Baden-Württemberg or snatching a family ring will not have a large impact on Germany’s economy. But the policy is not pursuing economic goals. It’s all about pushing the refugees into a ghetto from which they won’t be likely to emerge.

Waiting for ISIS

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio says he bought a gun on Christmas Eve to protect his family from Islamic State militants.

Or, in the words of Charles Pierce, “this is still the best country ever in which to peddle complete public lunacy.”

When I imagine Rubio, with his whiny little boy voice and his scared doe eyes bravely clutching a gun to his chest as he sits at home staring at the door through which scary ISIS fighters can irrupt at any moment, I thank Providence I’m not a comic because there is no chance of outdoing this in terms of comedic effect.

Good Point

Sanders would be the third Democratic nominee in the last eight presidential elections to emerge from New England, never having run a truly nasty race against a typical modern Republican. Is he any readier than Mike Dukakis and John Kerry were for the inevitable one-two punch of a GOP back-alley mugging and extra kicks from skeptical centrists and liberals?

Making oneself relevant to Illinois and Florida is so not the same as making oneself relevant to Vermont. I’m not saying it can’t be done – Bernie has a good in with his gun record – but it is hard.

Making a Difference in Education

Somebody donated $50,000,000 to Harvard. Of course, it’s people’s own business what to do with their money but it’s weird that somebody would want to give money to a place where it will be neither noticed nor appreciated.

We have community colleges and universities here in Illinois that will probably close down by the end of this year because of our governor’s insanity. If somebody chose to help one of them, this would be a way to make an impact, do something valuable.

Rauner, by the way, made clear that he will not honor the state’s promise of giving students in dire financial need the MAP grants they use to cover tuition. These are the most vulnerable young people in the state, and now they will not be able to continue their education.

It’s truly shocking how much damage a single deranged maniac like Rauner can cause.

Putin and the European Jews

Putin met with the representatives of the European Jewish Congress and told them that Europe was too dangerous for them, too anti-Semitic, and they should all just move to Russia.

The Jews were taken aback and politely said that the idea was a bit too radical for them.

Serves them right for wasting time on a Goebbels admirer like Putin.

Moral Superiority

And one more thing re: the previous post. It is super easy to stand up for people you like and find agreeable. But it’s kind of worthless. Whether one is truly principled becomes clear when one either does or doesn’t defend from bullying people who are unpleasant or downright obnoxious.

People who find online harassment of Anita Sarkeesian to be more disturbing than online harassment of Sarah Palin are not feminists. They simply believe that harassment is a convenient tool that should be used to keep annoying women in check. And women, of course, have to make sure they behave in a way that doesn’t “provoke” abuse.

I’m so tired of the endless self-congratulation of Liberals who screech, “Republicans hate women and immigrants!” as if they were any better. It would be so much more productive for people to stop denouncing the other side’s bigotry and concentrate on their own. There is nobody with any claim to moral superiority here.

On Palin’s Trump Endorsement

When McCain first selected Palin as his running mate, I detested her. Since then, however, I saw such a barrage of vicious, disgusting, sexist commentary about her on Liberal websites and blogs that I feel horrible for her and don’t want to hear any more of the stupid clumsy jokes on her account.

Following, for these past 7 years, the Liberal coverage of Palin taught me that sexism has no party affiliation. People who write passionate ultra – progressive articles easily slip into the most outlandishly woman – hating screeds against not only Palin and her daughters but even her infant granddaughter born last month. Among all the unsuccessful vice-presidential candidates, nobody I know received such relentlessly shitty treatment as Palin.

This is why I now feel nothing but a desire to barf when I see my news feed explode with condemnation of Palin for her Trump endorsement. All of the so-called feminists who keep moaning on Shakesville and Feministing about being tragically victimized by somebody looking at them the wrong way wouldn’t survive two days of the kind of bullying and persecution that Palin has had to experience for years simply for being a female politician. That she still has the presence of mind to step into the public eye is truly admirable.

If somebody had told me 7 years ago that I’d be writing this post one day, I wouldn’t have believed it. And I’m very sorry that I’ve had to discover the malodorous depths of sexist iniquity among many proud Liberals. I’ve lost a lot of my idealism in these years and can now only laugh when these people begin congratulating themselves on their entirely imaginary feminist credentials.

How EU Jews Define Anti-semitism
