How Can Any Woman Disrespect Herself So Much. . .

. . . that she would agree to drool all over this vile, nasty, stupid rapist?

I’ll never watch another movie that Kate Winslet even stood next to, let alone starred in. I had no idea she was such a pathetic jerk. Bleh.

What would make you boycott a celebrity?

  1. Back in 2008, I called my radio station and asked that they stop playing Chris Brown. I knew they would refuse, but I expected them to refuse politely. In stead, the DJ laughed at me and called me ridiculous. I do not listen to that radio station anymore.

  2. Ugh, really?
That man drugged and raped a child, and then thumbed his nose at the people who tried to bring him anything vaguely resembling justice. If my arm were around him, it would be to look for a place to slap on a pair of handcuffs.

    1. I often use the Polanski story to figure out if a need to be hanging out with the new people I meet. I tell them, “What a disgusting animal is this Polanski!” and if they start saying, “Well, what you’ve got to understand is that things are always more complicated. . .”, that’s always a sign to me that I don’t need them in my life.

      1. I often use that as a friendship barometer as well. My favourite justification was, “Well, in Europe, they have much more liberated sexual attitudes…”
Liberated sexual attitudes do not equal condoning the rape of a child, damnit!

      2. Oh phew I had to do a GIS b/c I got Kate Winslet mixed up w/Kirsten Dunst. I can still like Kirsten Dunst, right?

So these are the facts to consider.

        1. Chinatown and Rosemary’s Baby are really good movies.
        2. The guy who made them is a pedophile rapist.
        3. If you pay to see either of these really good movies, either purchasing or going to a screening, you are giving some percentage of your money to a pedophile rapist.
        4. If see either really good movie for free or already own the DVDs, you are still supporting the art of a pedophile rapist.

Fuck you, Roman Polanski. Fuck you sideways with a sharp rock.

usually i start by asking “so, have you heard of R. P. (why he e.g. was in hiding in switzerland?) if someone doesn’t even know what R.P. did it’s over for me within seconds.
(btw, its the 1st time today that i actually see *the picture*. beyond words for me)

  3. It has to be for publicity! Polanski is such a disgusting little man in every way. Kate Winslet’s record of exposing her body in movies suggests that she relies more on sexual suggestion than acting ability. The sexual suggestion in that Polanski kiss is obvious – I am that young innocent girl!

    How sad!

  4. I’ve always been disgusted by the European authourities that have sheltered him for all these years. It isn’t up to the artists (like Winslet) to bring him to justice – it’s the political system. Which is why I have little faith in the ‘advanced progressive European Socialist States’. If this is what they endorse, they can keep him.

    1. I still haven’t been able to understand why they are protecting him. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Is it some sort of a latent anti-American feeling that makes European authorities want to stick it to the US, no matter what the cost might be?

I’m not insisting on this interpretation. This is what I would have thought had he been sheltered by Russian authorities.

  5. I’m a big fan of Woody Allen although he’s supposed to have slept with his step daughter or something. I don’t care about that while watching his films. So I cannot be your friend? 🙂

    1. I think Woody Allen lacks talent to a horrifying degree. I’ve had a boyfriend dump me for not appreciating the art of Woody Allen, and it’s just as well because that relationship was doomed. 🙂

But I appreciate you too much to hold your enjoyment of his films against you. 🙂

  6. Also I’ve heard “theories” (there are serious academic works to that effect) that Lewis Carrol was a pedophile. I still find “Alice in Wonderland” a brilliant and charming book. Knowing about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_the_Author definitely helps me be detached from the biographical details of the author while enjoying his/her work.
I’m not sure I could extend the same leeway to Polanski or Gunter Grass (he revealed his Nazi past recently) because I am not so familiar with their works.

  7. My list of celebrities I refuse to give money to is pretty darn long (Polanski is on it, among numerous others).

Charles Dodgson is my second favorite author…there is still a lot of scholarship on his sexual preferences, but there is no hard evidence to prove exactly what those were.

    1. I have not seen anything convincing about Lewis Carroll’s reputed pedophilia. The albums with photos of naked children are proof of nothing since it was a very common tradition to make such photos at that time. There is no evidence that he made those photos against the wished of the kids’ parents or in secret from them.

  8. Come now, surely we’re all smart enough to realize there’s a difference between reading/enjoying the work of an artist who is long dead and can no longer benefit from your patronage, and actively supporting an artist who is a repugnant lawbreaker/abuser of human rights by buying their stuff while they’re still alive.

Yep its political most if not all EU countries hate the death penalty so they will use that as an excuse. At the top levels of government. And at the same time use any latent anti-American because the good old USA is the biggest on the block for the western world, so a jab here and a jab there scores points. There is international law but only if two parties agree and nothing bad happens if one does not. He could be sent back on a plane today but they dont have to.

  10. I have to confess I do not understand this, “supporting these authors by buying their works” principle. A lot of corporations do nasty stuff. Should we stop buying their products?

Sure if you can why not? Don’t ever buy American Apparel, for example. Their CEO is a disgusting entitled sexist creepo and almost certainly a rapist, whatever his lawyers say. If you have any other avenues to pursue in the endless quest for overpriced tacky “fashion” t-shirts, shop there instead.

    1. Agreed. There’s also this: Some corporations sell me items I need (food, medicine, clothing). It would be quite difficult, if not impossible, to move completely away from corporations for all of those needs. However, avoiding Polanski and Winslett movies is an easy move for me to make.
