I love fresh figs. Mind you, not those weird dried ones. It’s fresh figs that are my favorite snack.
Of course, they are insanely expensive. Usually, they are sold for $1.99 each which is ridiculous. Sometimes, they go on sale for $0.99 apiece. But that’s crazy, too, because it feels like eating a 1 dollar bill with every small fig.
But, oh, they are amazing. The texture is so complicated that every fig is a separate experience. Just try putting your tongue inside a freshly bitten fig and swirling it in there for a few seconds and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Today, however, they went on sale for $2.99 per box of 15 figs. So I’m happy.
In the next post, I will show you my second favorite snack.

I love figs! If we are talking about fruits, fresh figs are second best to chirimoyas.

I looked up chirimoyas and I don’t think I ever tried them. Do you eat them raw?

Yes. The taste is very subtle, it reminds me of raspberries, peaches, and kiwis, but milder. In my experience chirimoyas are hard to find in North America. I often bought them $5 a piece…
I am cheap so it hurt.

You got me so curious that now I will be hunting for them.

Good luck! Now that I think you brother-and-law and you sister probably know that fruit pretty well.

Wow, we have identical preferences and in the same order. Is it not amazing?

Wait for the second snack. That one is very weird.

Fresh raw pecans. Preferably from either Texas or Georgia.
Stayman Winesap apples are second, when they are in season and available.

I saw fresh raw pecans today but I don’t like the taste of pecans so I didn’t get them.
I’m not sure if I tried Stayman Winesap apples. They look familiar but I’m not sure.
I really miss the Ithaca apple fair. That was a great event!

Stayman Winesap apples are a common local crop here in MD-DE-PA. They seem to be difficult to find elsewhere.

It’s also quite offensive in Russian. 🙂

My favorite snacks are nectarines in the summer, and those little mandarin oranges in the winter. I love fresh figs too, but I often don’t buy them because of the price.

Oh, mandarin oranges, oh, how much I love them.

Sister invited me for lunch because she bought figs and she wants to treat me. In turn, I am cooking for her in her home ’cause she is busy assembling IKEA furniture. Daughters have tons of shoes and clothes and they are longing for additional closets. I am very behind with my own work and will return to my office right after lunch.

Where! Where! I want those 15 for 3 bucks figs, and I might make a side trip in IL to get them. The price is worth an extra gallon or so of gas!

I bought them in the local Dierberg’s, so I’m sure you can find them in your Dierberg’s, too.
