  1. Hmm, tricky. Hate the most – 1980s, love the most – 1920s.

The picture from the 1950s is unfortunate because there were some beautiful clothes from that time, and you may have chosen this particularly bad picture to show that you don’t like that period either.

But the picture from the 80s is so bad that I think you must hate that period the most.

  2. Let’s look at these in more detail (again, don’t take too too seriously)

The 1920s – Still recovering from modernism? The 20′s idea was a boyish figure minimizing physical differences between the sexes (while maximizing clothing differences), i doubt if that’s your thing, though the iconoclastic aspect of the time might appeal

The 1930s – The world takes a grim turn and the key words are droopy, drapey, drab. I can see you likeing the second but not the last

The 1940s – A decade defined by war, the look is aguely militaristic and very solemn, doubt if you like this

The 1950s – Can you say infantile? I knew you could. The stereotype of womens clothes in the 50s was that they were overgrown little girl dresses (in tune with the popular perception of women being childlike) the truth was more complicated of course

The 1960s – Back to iconoclastic looks of the 20′s but here design operates independently from the human body which is supposed to adapt itself to the style (rather than be enhanced by the clothes)

The 1970s – Also a throwback to the 20′s but here the androgeny is not the body shape but the clothes themselves (a man could wear that outfit just as easily, it would be a stretch but doable).

The 1980s – Back to more gender differentiation but this time in terms of color and hair than anything else. Softer styles than other androgynistic times the men (not pictured) drift toward feminine styles rather than women toward masculinity

The 1990s – More sexual differentiation (through color and cut) but within a fundamentally more masculinized overall look.

My guess is that you’ll like the 20′s the most (aftershock of modernism and the largest? fastest? fashion change in history)

I’ll guess you hate the 50′s the most (unless you liked dress up games as a little girl).

  3. Love the most: 1930s (Clarissa has mentioned her gaucho pants.)

Hate the most: I’m looking for something comfortable without frills. It could be the 1940s, 1980s, or 1990s. I agree with Sarah’s reasoning — the 1980s.

  4. HATE: 70’s. (You have said that you don’t like to wear jeans. And I associate massive jeans wearing with the 70’s.) My second choice for hate would be the 80’s.

LOVE: 30’s. (Although I can also see you liking the 20’s and 40’s as well.)

  5. My completely ill informed opinion :p:

HATE: The ’80s just because ripped, distressed jeans were a thing and I remember a story about you having to wear a torn uniform because a classmate destroyed it. Also the ’80s have all this ridiculous neon clothing.

LOVE: the ’70s. Jeans were a thing but also flowy flowery outfits. Also long straight hair. (I could see 30’s — 20s is difficult to wear for the busty.)

  6. I do not know but I should imitate this post. I like the 30s best and the 20s second best, 90s 3d best. I hate 50s the most. I also dislike 80s, 40s, 70s, 60s.

  7. Hate 80’s, love 50’s?
I’m taking a major risk here – most seem in agreement that you hate the 50’s outfit.

  8. With your political and cultural views, I have to imagine that you HATE 1950s style. Judging by what (little) I have seen of your clothing, I’m thinking you LOVE the strong-woman style of the thirties. But fashion is so difficult! You may, for example, love the hippy look without ever wearing it yourself!

I LOVE how actively everybody is participating. Thank you, folks!!!
