What is it about the subject of gun control that makes everybody instantly reach for the dumbest analogies ever?

Children are not allowed to run around with assault weapons as it is, so it makes little sense to let them choke on tiny parts Kinder contains to make some ridiculous point.
The idea of gun control – which I support completely – loses a lot of its potency when its proponents begin to act as immaturely as its opponents. Waging a stupid Facebook war of memes trivializes an issue and robs it of any meaning. What happened to having a serious discussion, with actual arguments expressed in words, sentences, and even paragraphs?
Asian children laying eggs is certainly banned in most parts of the world.

Plus, this is a really really stupid. It requires you to know that Ü-Eier are banned for apparently being a choking hazard. Is this common knowledge in the US? If not, this really fails. I mean who would look upon one of those eggs and immediately think “CHOKING HAZARD!”?.
Also, really? These are banned in the US? I mean, really? Is this another fallout from all the overprotective and ultimately suffocating parenting hysteria?

I think this is more of a protecting-local-manufacturers thing.

– I think the point is to say “Here is something cute and small and non-threatening and it’s banned.” Most people probably don’t know what these are.

Dumb, because the same kind of people who want kids not to choke on toys also want assault weapons banned. It is the typical false equivalence.

The political debate is not a rational debate, so…

*Snort* Oh Clarissa, every debate is reduced to sound, fury, soundbites and the grossest sort of emotional manipulation.
And that’s actual politics — not just on Facebook, which is the AOL of the 2010s.

Yes, you are right. I find this too annoying.

The real scandal is that the US has become such a wimpified nation that it’s afraid of Kinder Surprise (mediocre chocolate surrounding a plastic capsule with a mediocre toy inside).
What kind of weakling excuse for a country is afraid of Kinder Surprise?
I am purely disgusted.
I don’t care about guns much one way or the other.

I think the Kinder Surprise ban is the result of an American manufacturer lobbying to remove a competitor. It isn’t like anybody can see any real health hazard in those toys. I don’t think a huge adult would be able to swallow that plastic egg, let alone a child.
